Excitement is building among fans of Honkai: Star Rail as recent leaks suggest that the long-anticipated character skins may soon be introduced in Version 3.0. While the idea of alternative outfits has circulated in the community, they have yet to receive official confirmation from HoYoverse. This is reminiscent of the cosmetic systems found in Genshin Impact, another popular RPG from the same developer. Although these alternate skins typically serve aesthetic purposes without impacting gameplay, they do enhance player enjoyment and personalization of characters.
Among the initial teasers for character skins, players have already seen March 7th’s outfit change in conjunction with her Path alterations. Beyond this, additional alternative designs have been hinted at. For instance, during the thematic event “Jolted Awake From a Winter Dream,” March 7th showcased a unique dress. Similarly, during the Xianzhou Luofu story arc, the character Kafka was spotted without her iconic jacket. Hints of cosmetic-exclusive outfits for both March 7th and Kafka abound, yet official revelations about these skins remain elusive. Nonetheless, the recent leaks bring renewed hope for their imminent arrival.
Honkai: Star Rail 3.0 Beta Test Leaks Reveal More Details About Character Skins
Skins Could Be 4-Star Items, According to Leaks
Insights from a reliable leaker, Kazusa, reveal that work on character skins began during the Version 1.4 beta testing phase in 2023. The beta tests for Version 3.0 have purportedly expanded on this skin system. According to Kazusa, players will be able to purchase these skins from a dedicated shop section, resembling the character outfit segment found in Genshin Impact. Although specifics on the currency required for acquisition remain unclear, it is suggested that the default rarity for these skins will be 4-star.
The leaked data indicates that the game has variables such as “AvatarSkinName,””AvatarSkinStory,”and “AvatarSkinSynopsis.”These terms likely correlate to the skin’s title, backstory, and summary, similar to how Genshin Impact handles its character skins. Furthermore, there is a possibility of character-specific variations depending on the Paths they embody; for example, March 7th’s Preservation and Hunt roles might grant her distinct skins applicable to each Path.
A term unveiled in the leaks, “MultiPathDressedSkinID,” suggests that these alternative outfits may indeed vary according to a character’s selected Path, signaling an extra layer of customization.
Character Skins Likely Not Arriving in Honkai: Star Rail 3.0
The System Remains a Work in Progress
Despite the positive updates surrounding the skin system’s development, Kazusa emphasizes that Kafka is poised to be the first character to receive a new outfit, as previously hinted during the Version 2.5 beta phase. The early coding suggestions indicated something potentially groundbreaking for the Stellaron Hunter, referring to her forthcoming skin as “test_not_yet_created.” While significant progress is being made, there is no guarantee that these skins will debut alongside Version 3.0.
The newly uncovered skin-related coding in the current beta does not automatically guarantee their inclusion in this patch. Even with the ongoing tests, it’s probable that any potential skins will be reserved for a later version, as the leaker reinforced that the skin system is still categorized as a work in progress.
Given that no images or further details regarding the skins have leaked as the patch release approaches, it is improbable for them to appear in Version 3.0. The primary focus for the upcoming update appears to be on new characters, the Remembrance Path, and project Amphoreus. Though leaks should always be taken with a grain of caution, the developments concerning character skins signal promising advancements for the game’s third year, enhancing the customizable experience that players anticipate in Honkai: Star Rail.
