Honkai: Star Rail – What to Anticipate in 2025

The future of Honkai: Star Rail promises to be an exhilarating journey as the game enters its third year of expansions in 2025, offering players a treasure trove of surprises and engaging new features. Currently, the game is approaching the end of Version 2.7, which is the final update before the much-anticipated Version 3.0. As part of this final chapter, players will have the opportunity to acquire Fugue for the first time, in addition to pursuing Firefly, who is making a comeback in the Honkai: Star Rail 2.7 banners. While this patch is substantial, it pales in comparison to what is on the horizon.

As the community eagerly awaits Version 3.0, set to launch on January 15, players will explore Amphoreus, a brand-new location along the Astral Express route. This update will also introduce Remembrance, the first new playable Path since the game’s debut in 2023. HoYoverse, the game’s developer, hints at an exciting trajectory for both the narrative and the characters set within Honkai: Star Rail, signaling significant developments throughout 2025.

What to Expect From Honkai: Star Rail Updates in 2025

The Game’s Third Year Should Last Until Mid-December

Honkai Star Rail's The Herta and Aglaea pose in Amphoreus.

The launch of Version 3.0 marks the beginning of a busy year, with updates structured around HoYoverse’s established six-week release cycle. Developers anticipate that content will continue through at least Version 3.7, confirming that Traiblaze Missions centered in Amphoreus will appear sequentially from Version 3.0 to 3.7, totaling seven patches. If this schedule holds, players can expect Version 4.0 to debut by mid-December.

While the storyline in The Eternal Land will provide ongoing narratives throughout the year, players can also look forward to revisiting earlier locations like Belobog and the Herta Space Station through events and updates, reminiscent of previous content cycles that included Xianzhou Luofu.

Players can anticipate new character introductions in 2025, starting with the launch of Version 3.0, which will feature three new units: The Herta, Aglaea, and the Remembrance Trailblazer. The Herta is the genuine form of the Genius Society member previously encountered through her dolls, featuring Ice Erudition abilities aimed at dealing area damage. Aglaea will be the first character from Amphoreus, boasting Lightning DMG capabilities, and is designed as a primary DPS, complimented by her memosprite, Garmentmaker. The Remembrance Trailblazer, an evolved playable character unlocked through progression, will introduce a new dynamic to team compositions.

Looking ahead, HoYoverse has revealed two more characters set to debut in Version 3.1: Tribbie and Mydei. Both are 5-star units, with Tribbie representing a Quantum character aligned with the Path of Harmony and Mydei classified as an Imaginary character on the Path of Destruction. While their specific roles remain speculative, Tribbie appears to promise support capabilities while Mydei likely fulfills a DPS role.

Additional characters such as Anaxa, Hyacine, Cypher, Castorice, and Phainon are expected to become playable after their introduction as NPCs in Amphoreus’ storyline, strengthening the ties to the upcoming content. Rumors swirl about a new form for Dan Heng, particularly given his connection with the Trailblazer in Amphoreus. Moreover, March 7th may be linked to the Path of Remembrance, potentially granting her a new playable Path this year. These developments open doors for more characters from various regions to enter the game, regardless of direct narrative involvement.

New Honkai: Star Rail Region (Amphoreus) in 2025

The Destination Will Be in the Spotlight from Version 3.0 Through Version 3.7

Honkai Star Rail's Titan stands in Amphoreus.

The introduction of Amphoreus stands as an exciting expansion for the turn-based RPG. Resembling elements of Ancient Greece and Rome, this region is rich with historical and mythological nuances. Once ruled by Titans, this realm witnessed a prolonged conflict between this powerful species and humanity, with humanity ultimately emerging victorious, albeit leaving Amphoreus a mere shadow of its glorious past.

Players will partner with local champions, the Chrysos Heirs, aiming to vanquish the remaining Titans and recover the Coreflames needed to reinvigorate Amphoreus. This primary narrative will unfold across nearly the entire year, with every patch from Version 3.0 through Version 3.7 expected to feature new Trailblaze Missions. This marks a significant shift from previous content years, where new locations only received focus during a limited number of patches.

Notably, Amphoreus is set to be the largest destination introduced in the game thus far. While maps will debut with Version 3.0, future expansions are anticipated, promising players an extensive array of content, particularly focused on campaign-driven quests. As we look forward, 2025 is shaping up to be immensely rewarding for the Honkai: Star Rail community and the narrative depth suggested hints at a promising trajectory for both gameplay and story developments.
