This article contains SPOILERS for The Stormlight Archive up through Wind and Truth and the first and second eras of Mistborn.
The conclusion of Wind and Truth offered a treasure trove of insights for fans of the Cosmere universe, particularly as it sets the stage for the forthcoming Mistborn trilogy. Brandon Sanderson’s intricate Cosmere is a hallmark of contemporary fantasy, continually expanding through an interconnected web of characters and narratives. Notably, the finale of Wind and Truth showcases the longest appearance of Thaidakar, a character better recognized by devoted fans as Kelsier, making these links between the two series even more thrilling.
While the initial Mistborn trilogy remains among Sanderson’s most popular works, fans have faced a long wait for the next chapter. Since The Lost Metal was released in 2022, there has only been one new installment. Anticipation builds for the next series titled Mistborn: Ghostbloods, which is expected to explore a setting influenced by early 1980s technology, but it remains some years away.
Connections Between The Stormlight Archive & Mistborn’s Futures
Simultaneous Timelines: Mistborn Era 3 and Stormlight Arc 2
Although the Cosmere’s timeline often appears nebulous, the conclusion of Wind and Truth has established clearer ties between the worlds of Scadrial and Roshar. The narrative of The Stormlight Archive is situated after the first Mistborn era while preceding the second era. A pivotal moment occurs when Wit is killed on Roshar and subsequently reconstitutes in Ulaam’s lab on Scadrial, taking on the role of Waxillium Ladrian’s carriage driver. Meanwhile, the tantalizing exchange between Shallan and Thaidakar unveils that Roshar is, interestingly, experiencing time at a different rate—what transpires as a decade there translates to 70-80 years elsewhere.
Previously, Kelsier alluded to Iyatil’s survival and possible menace at the conclusion of The Lost Metal, but by the close of Wind and Truth, he discovers news of her demise. This suggests that the events unfolding during the Shallan and Thaidakar interaction occur after Mistborn era 2 has presumably reached its conclusion. To summarize, The Stormlight Archive’s second arc will occur 10 years post the events on Roshar, whereas Mistborn era 3 will take place approximately 80 years after the second era concludes on Scadrial. Consequently, these next narrative arcs will unfold concurrently.
Continuing the Ghostbloods Narrative in Mistborn Era 3
Kelsier’s Expanded Role in Mistborn: Ghostbloods
The Ghostbloods, a clandestine organization originating from Scadrial, have seen more attention within The Stormlight Archive than in the Mistborn series itself—this is set to change in the forthcoming trilogy. The narrative is poised to center around a young Terriswoman, but with Kelsier taking a more substantial role, it signals a shift toward a more interconnected Cosmere narrative. It will likely continue the overarching Trell storyline introduced during the second Mistborn era. While readers await the release of the sixth The Stormlight Archive book, they can keep an eye out for intriguing connections in Mistborn: Ghostbloods.
