Initiating The Secret Of Giants Quest
Locating Father Crescenzo
Your journey into “The Secret of Giants”begins during the main quest titled “The Stolen Cat Mummy.”Upon reaching the Vatican, you will venture into subterranean ruins alongside Father Antonio. Follow the linear pathway, swim through the grotto, and utilize your whip to unlock a gate. Within these ruins, Antonio uncovers Father Crescenzo’s skeletal remains, accompanied by a journal that reveals his obsessive quest for the Vatican’s mysterious inscriptions. This introductory step is unmissable, compelling players to progress through the main narrative.
Completing this pivotal step also opens up another Fieldwork quest titled “The Mad Priest,”which you can activate by speaking with Sister Catherine in the Sistine Chapel.
As part of the main storyline, Antonio requests that you return with photographs of four inscriptions from the vicinity. While this task operates somewhat independently of “The Secret of Giants,”it is crucial for unlocking that quest. Indy can mark the locations indicated by Father Crescenzo’s map before embarking on the search.
Acquiring The Camera
Before setting off, you will need a camera. Antonio insists on photographic proof of the inscriptions you uncover, suggesting a contact at the Vatican Post Office for assistance. Navigate to the marker on your map and converse with Ernesto, who offers to sell you a camera for 379 lire. If funds are low, consider exploring Blackshirt outposts or completing other sidequests to earn cash. Engaging in the boxing ring can also offer opportunities for prize money, enabling you to return to Ernesto shortly.
Now equipped with a camera, you can hunt for the elusive inscriptions. All are inscribed on similar shield-shaped seals, so after identifying the first one, the remaining inscriptions should be easier to spot. After locating four, return to Antonio to proceed to the next main quest phase and unlock “The Secret of Giants.”Keep in mind that while searching for the inscriptions, you can complete them in any order, though some might require prior tasks or specific key items.
Locating All Inscription
Inscription #1: Post Office Alley
The first inscription lies conveniently nearby, in a small alley off the Vatican Post Office. Ensure you’ve completed “A Savage Discovery”to acquire the key necessary to access this location.
If you’re struggling to capture the inscription, adjust your angle and use the zoom function on the camera until the squares on the interface align perfectly.
Descend the stairs, pass through the open door, and you’ll find the inscription on your right-hand wall as you enter.
Inscription #2: Belvedere Courtyard Garden
From the eastern side, head towards the Belvedere Courtyard and seek out the gate leading into a beautifully manicured garden. Enter this space, which should be unlocked, and make your way to the northeastern corner to discover the second inscription situated above a fountain.
Inscription #3: Belvedere Courtyard Fountain
Next, move into the central area of the Belvedere Courtyard, located at the core of the Vatican map. Circle around the large fountain at the center to locate the inscription on the northern side, inscribed on the inner base of the fountain.
Inscription #4: Fountain of Confession
To find this inscription, navigate towards the Fountain of Confession positioned on the map’s western side. If you haven’t secured the Blackshirt Uniform essential for accessing the boxing ring, you may need to maneuver stealthily through this area. Ascend the stairs located to the east of the fountain, where a smaller fountain adorned with a seal and inscription awaits.
Inscription #5: Excavation Site
Another inscription can be located at the Excavation Site adjacent to the Apostolic Palace. This expansive zone is teeming with Blackshirts. You have the option to either methodically clear out adversaries or wait until you engage with “The Mad Priest”side quest to access a secret side entrance that allows you to bypass most enemies.
Regardless of your approach, you’ll need to navigate through the courtyard and avoid detection by the Blackshirts to reach the inscription positioned in the northwest corner. Utilizing the area’s verticality can provide effective cover since the Blackshirts patrol higher walkways.
Inscription #6: Rooftops
The subsequent inscription awaits you on the upper levels of the Apostolic Palace. You may gain access by naturally exploring the palace or climbing the scaffolding found behind the stage in the central courtyard. Upon entering the room featuring the House of God puzzle box, jump through the window onto the rooftops of the south-central courtyard. Head right and employ your whip to scale a higher rooftop where the inscription is readily visible to your left.
Inscription #7: Behind The Stage
Make your way to the central courtyard of the Vatican area, then look southward towards the imposing banner of Mussolini and the unfinished stage. Circumnavigate the stage to locate climbable scaffolding. At its peak, leap onto the nearby balcony and turn right where you’ll discover the next inscription tucked away in a corner.
Inscription #8: Sewers
To uncover the eighth inscription, you must advance through “The Mad Priest”side quest until the sewers become accessible. Upon entry, ascend using the ledges and your whip until reaching the designated location for the next inscription.
Inscription #9: Hidden Alcove
Proceed with the main storyline until an opportunity arises to enter a hidden alcove off the southern road through double wooden doors. Ascend the stairs to the rooftop, crouch, and navigate through an opening in the fence before rappelling down into a lower area teeming with Blackshirts. Here, you will discover the penultimate inscription.
Inscription #10: Apostolic Library Courtyard
The final inscription requires you to initiate the Fieldwork quest “A Nun In Trouble”and advance until you unlock access to the Apostolic Library’s museum wing. Navigate to the adjacent courtyard and climb the stairs in the northwestern corner to uncover the last inscription.
Upon successfully gathering all ten inscriptions, return to Antonio’s office and interact with the poster board next to his desk to submit your findings. In reward, you will receive one of the Ancient Relics hidden within the Vatican, as well as the achievement titled “The Path of Junia”for completing “The Secret of Giants”in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
