Indiana Jones & The Great Circle presents a thrilling challenge with its myriad of enigmas, one of which is the intriguing puzzle known as “A Snake in the Garden.”Despite Indiana’s well-known aversion to snakes, this quest offers rewarding insights into the secrets of the church, specifically within the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican, if you dare to unravel its mysteries.
It’s essential to note that “A Snake in the Garden”only becomes available once you arrive at the Apostolic Palace, encountered as part of the game’s narrative. Unlike other side quests such as the Gold and Silver Forges, this Mystery is not mandatory for advancing the main storyline. Instead, it can be navigated at your leisure, even after you have departed from the Vatican.
Initiating “A Snake in the Garden”
Accessing the Office of Father Ventura
The journey into “A Snake in the Garden”commences by entering the office of Father Ventura located within the Apostolic Palace. This area is heavily guarded, necessitating stealth as adversaries are quick to attack upon detection. To navigate this obstacle, use your whip to divert the guards’ attention, allowing for safer access to pivotal locations.
Alternatively, you can don the Blackshirt Uniform, which disguises Indiana as a member of the church. This clever tactic reduces the likelihood of confrontation, granting smoother entry into the Palace.
Upon arrival, the front entrance to Father Ventura’s office is locked; thus, you will need to utilize the side door for entry. Once inside, the Mystery unfolds as you delve into the personal space of this church figure. Pay attention to the puzzle associated with the Father’s bookshelf, which will become pivotal in your investigation.
Upon interacting with the bookshelf, you’ll discover that pulling a particular book activates a hidden mechanism. This marks the beginning of the “A Snake in the Garden”Mystery, where your goal is to identify and pull the correct combination of books to unlock a concealed area behind the shelf.
Solving Ventura’s Bookcase Puzzle
Identifying the Correct Clues
You will encounter four distinct books on Ventura’s bookcase. However, be mindful that you must pull them in the precise sequence to advance in the Mystery. Each book is adorned with a unique symbol:
- A Crown
- A Triangle
- A Star
- A Sun
According to the clues found in the Note, the four preferred Medieval Latin texts of Father Ventura should be pulled in alphabetical order to reveal the secret compartment. Notably, flipping over the Note provides you with the names of the books along with their respective symbols. The required order for pulling the books is as follows:
- French – Crown
- Logical – Triangle
- QDV – Star
- Philosophy – Sun
Be cautious—pulling the books out of this specified order will cause the puzzle to reset, accompanied by an audible cue. Fortunately, you can refer back to the Note at any point to reaffirm the correct sequence without alarming the guards.
Successfully pulling the books in the correct order will trigger a hidden section of the shelf to rise, granting access to additional rewards. Completing this puzzle not only nets you valuable Adventure Points, essential for enhancing Indiana Jones’ skills, but it also yields around £120 in cash. Furthermore, you will obtain a note from Father Ventura intended for Benito Mussolini, illuminating intriguing aspects of Father Ventura’s character—effectively making him the metaphorical “Snake in the Garden”of this engrossing Mystery within Indiana Jones & The Great Circle.
