American actress Tia Mowry has recently opened up about her complicated relationship with her twin sister Tamera Mowry in a teaser for her upcoming reality series Tia Mowry: My Next Act. During the discussion, she revealed insights into her life following her divorce from Cory Hardrict, mentioning that although she longs for Tamera’s support, their relationship isn’t as close as it once was.
For those unaware, Tia and Cory’s divorce was finalized in April 2023.
Fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their reactions to Tia Mowry’s revelations. Some notable comments include:
“NO shade to Tia, if you watched her & Tamera show back in the day she was not the nicest to Tamera.. so it’s not shocking that they aren’t close. Even being family you can’t expect to treat people a certain way continually & still have the privilege to be close to them,”wrote one fan.
“I’m really glad I actually watched this video. Y’all focusing on her lack of relationship with Tamera (which was obvious) instead of her saying she has the privilege of choice for the first time in her life!”opined another.
However, many fans expressed their frustrations, pointing fingers at Tia Mowry for the strain in her relationships with both her sister and ex-husband, with one tweeting:
“I know Tia is everybody’s fave, but if you watched their last reality TV show, Tia was definitely more antagonistic towards Tamera. It definitely gave Big Sister picking on Little Sister for laughs.”
“I know a lot of black Twitter hates Tamera because of her husband, but I really think Tia is the reason they’re estranged. Tia seems to be in a weird phase of her life…and I can imagine the people closest to her wouldn’t really like this new version she’s tryna put on for the world,”agreed another.
“Tia was a little too combative towards Tamera in the past. Even if I had a twin brother and he acted that way towards me, I would have distanced myself before things got physical. Family can cross lines too. We may never know the exact reason. But we can see how Tia interacted with Tamera,”wrote another fan on X.
One fan even suggested that the COVID-19 pandemic contributed significantly to the sisters’ strained relationship.
“I really think the pandemic played a major role. A lot of people have grown distant from their friends and family. Nobody trusts anymore,”commented the fan.
“I had a feeling they weren’t as close anymore! Especially when Tamera mentioned last month that she found out about Tia’s show along with the public! I hope they can mend their relationship,”opined another.
“I mean, you all came into this world together. Shit happens, but I’m just surprised that they can’t put their differences aside to support her through this tough divorce and the rebuilding of her life,”inferred another observer on X.
In the clip, Tia Mowry also shared a viral moment with her ex-husband at the Essence Black Women In Hollywood Awards. During their first red carpet event post-divorce, they had a noticeably awkward interaction, unsure if they should hug or shake hands, a moment that quickly gained traction on social media.
“I am actually realizing that I have a choice,”Tia Mowry opens up about her life after divorce
Tia Mowry went on to discuss her challenges of adjusting to life after her divorce from Cory Hardrict. The two were married from 2008 to 2023 and share two children: Cree, 13, and Cairo, 6.
“One of the hardest things I’ve had to adapt to is dropping my kids off at their dad’s house. I’ve always envisioned a family dynamic with a mom and dad under one roof. When you drop your kids off, you see that dynamic is no longer a reality,” Tia explained.
The Sister, Sister actress also elaborated on being a family-oriented person and the difficulty of navigating her new independent life. However, she did highlight a positive takeaway from her experience.
“I feel that right now, yes, I’m vulnerable in my life, but it’s the first time I’m truly realizing that I have a choice. I can express my thoughts, be true to myself, and pursue happiness,” Tia shared.
The eight-episode series is produced by Tia, Adam Griffin, and Erin Richard, set to premiere on October 4 at 9:30 p.m. ET on We TV.
