Game Rant recently shared exclusive footage from the upcoming tactical stealth game The Stone of Madness, which highlights Eduardo de Rojas, affectionately dubbed “the giant.”Standing out as the most robust character in the game, Eduardo brings a unique dynamic to the player’s party.
Developed by The Game Kitchen, a renowned studio from Spain famous for its Blasphemous series, The Stone of Madness is scheduled for launch in January 2025 across various consoles and PC. A playable demo has been available on Steam since mid-October 2024, giving players a taste of the immersive experience that awaits.
The narrative of The Stone of Madness unfolds within an 18th-century Jesuit monastery, placing players in the shoes of a group of five prisoners determined to escape. Among them is Eduardo, depicted as a shirtless giant capable of leveraging his gargantuan strength to clear paths obstructed by debris, or creating new openings by assembling bridges from available materials. While he is not as ruthless as Leonora Guzman, another character with a penchant for violence, Eduardo shows he can wield his power effectively in combat, as showcased in the new footage where he deftly eliminates three guards with a single swing of a chain.
Challenges of Playing as Eduardo in The Stone of Madness
Despite his vast strength, stealthily maneuvering as Eduardo presents its own challenges. His considerable size constrains him from accessing areas that are more suited for quicker, more agile characters. Additionally, Eduardo’s irrational fear of darkness serves as a significant obstacle; he experiences a loss of Sanity when deprived of light, a crucial gameplay mechanic. A drop in Sanity can lead to mental breakdowns among characters, causing unexpected and potentially violent outcomes. It’s plausible that even the elderly character, Agnes, may find sneaking around less daunting than Eduardo.
One advantage Eduardo has is Agnes, who can light torches and other sources, thereby illuminating dark areas and aiding him in navigating through the monastery. Throughout the nighttime segments, which focus on preparation, Eduardo can craft essential tools for the group, significantly enhancing their chances of survival and escape.
