Developer Gunfire Games has officially announced the upcoming release of Darksiders 2 Deathinitive Edition for current-generation consoles and PC. Although this title may not represent the new entry that fans have eagerly awaited since the launch of Darksiders 3 in 2018, it is still a significant release that players should consider, especially since it is a free upgrade.
What Features Come with the Current-Generation Darksiders 2 Deathinitive Edition?
The Darksiders 2 Deathinitive Edition is a substantial enhancement over the original game, featuring a completely revamped engine while retaining the same art assets. This updated version includes native 4K resolution support and dramatically reduced loading times thanks to the SSDs found in current-generation systems.
Additionally, the PlayStation 5 edition of the game will leverage DualSense haptic feedback. As of this writing, Gunfire Games has yet to announce the framerate target for this latest iteration of the Darksiders sequel. However, following the performance metrics from their previous current-gen title, Remnant 2, a 60fps mode seems likely.
This current-generation version will also include ray tracing support along with significantly improved lighting and shadows compared to the versions released for PS4 and Xbox One. The inclusion of ray tracing indicates that the Deathinitive Edition is likely a port to Unreal Engine 4 or 5, since the original game was built on Unreal Engine 3, which does not support this feature.
Moreover, the Deathinitive Edition will come bundled with all previously released DLCs, which include:
- Maker Armor Set
- The Abyssal Forge
- The Demon Lord Belial
- Death Rides
- Angel of Death
- Deadly Despair
- Shadow of Death
- Mortis Pack
- Rusanov’s Axe
- Van Der Schmash Hammer
- Fletcher’s Crow Hammer
- Mace Maximus
- Argul’s Tomb
It’s important to note that DLC outfits and weapons will not be immediately accessible; they will be unlocked upon completing the game’s prologue.
