‘It’s Too Important:’ The View Cancels Tradition Due to ‘Dangerous’ Donald Trump

The hosts of The View are typically known for their creative Halloween costumes, but this year, they have chosen to forgo the tradition. What’s the reason behind this decision? It stems from the upcoming election…and the heightened tensions surrounding Donald Trump’s comments.

With Election Day set for November 5, the producers felt it was inappropriate to don festive costumes in the lead-up. Executive producer Brian Teta shared this sentiment during a recent episode of the podcast Behind the Table yesterday.

He announced, “I have news that might upset some viewers, but I believe it will make you feel better,” addressing Joy Behar directly. “This year, given that we are just days away from the election and we need to be live, the hosts will not be dressing in Halloween costumes.”

Last year, Behar channeled Cruella De Vil, while each of her co-hosts also embraced their favorite Disney characters. However, she expressed relief at the decision to skip costumes this time, remarking, “It’s always a hassle for us.”

Nonetheless, the fun is expected to return in 2025, regardless of Behar’s opinion. Teta mentioned plans for a revival of the tradition but emphasized that this election cycle is too critical. “Given the nature of our show and where we are right now, we cannot be pre-recorded [in costume] just three days before the election,” he stated.

Behar completely supported the choice to cancel the themed event, not just due to her dislike for costumes. “This issue is too pivotal,” she asserted. “It might sound dramatic, but we do have an effect on public perception. We need to use every moment to highlight how perilous [Trump] is.”

“It’s tough to convey that message when you’re dressed as Pinocchio,” Teta quipped. Behar had previously donned a “Pinocchio Trump” costume in 2017, complete with a notable nose extension as a form of protest.

Recently, Donald Trump criticized The View following Sunny Hostin’s interview with Kamala Harris, referring to her as “one dumb woman” and disparaging Whoopi Goldberg as “filthy, dirty, disgusting.” In response, the hosts made a statement by walking out to Christina Aguilera’s “Dirrty” on their next episode. Hostin notably expressed, “Donald Trump, thank you for your countless lies, alleged crimes, and for consistently providing us daily material. Your actions help us perform our jobs, and I sincerely appreciate it.”
