IU Crowned Billboard Korea’s “Artist of the Year”
On December 17, South Korean music sensation IU was honored as Billboard Korea’s “Artist of the Year.”This marks a significant recognition for the iconic solo artist, whose remarkable tracks, “Love Wins All” and “Holssi,” have left a lasting impact this year.
Chart-Topping Success with “Love Wins All”
Among her standout releases, “Love Wins All,” featuring BTS V in its official music video, ascended to the top of South Korea’s leading music platforms, including MelOn’s Top 100. The song not only topped charts but also accumulated an impressive 339 Perfect All-Kill (PAK) titles, as reported by iChart.
A Global Spotlight on Top Artists
This prestigious recognition comes as part of Billboard’s newly launched Global No. 1 series, which aims to celebrate prominent artists worldwide. Previously, this honor was given to musicians such as Dua Lipa and Cai Xukun, representing the UK and China, respectively.
A Thriving World Tour
In addition to her chart-topping singles, IU has also embarked on a successful world tour, HEREH, which comprised 31 sold-out concerts across Asia, Europe, and North America. Notably, she made history as the first Korean solo artist to perform at the Philippine Arena, recognized as the largest indoor venue globally, located in Manila.
Embracing a Relatable Persona
Reflecting on her achievements, IU remarked, “I believe the support I’ve received reflects an appreciation for my consistent hard work.”She emphasized her desire to maintain a “more approachable and relatable”persona, resonating deeply with her fans.
Future Collaborations on the Horizon
As she contemplates her next career steps following her accolade from Billboard Korea, IU has signaled a willingness to collaborate with international artists—a direction she had previously shunned despite numerous offers. “The idea of collaborating with artists who spoke different languages felt daunting. I turned down those opportunities then,”she explained. However, she now expresses a much more open approach, stating, “But I don’t feel the same way anymore. Now, I’m much more open to the idea of working with global artists.”
