James Marsden, the original actor behind Cyclops in the X-Men franchise, recently shared his insights on the much-anticipated film Deadpool & Wolverine, featuring Hugh Jackman’s iconic return as Wolverine. As the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) continues to flourish this year, the casting decisions for Deadpool & Wolverine serve as a heartfelt homage to the Fox-Marvel era, which played a crucial role in shaping the superhero film landscape we know today. While many stars from that era may not appear in the latest installment, actors like Marsden have expressed their excitement about the film.
In a recent interview with ScreenRant’s Joe Deckelmeier while promoting Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Marsden reflected on his own legacy in connection with Jackman’s return in Deadpool & Wolverine. He conveyed his enthusiasm for seeing Jackman don the classic Wolverine costume once more, and also entertained the possibility of reprising his role as Cyclops within the MCU.
I know so little about all of that. I loved the movie, Deadpool & Wolverine, it was great, and seeing Hugh back in that costume was great. I look back on that experience with such affection and reverence for all of it, and I loved playing that character. It was one of the highlights of my career, for sure. So, it was a joy and yeah, I mean, I don’t know what they’re doing or what’s happening with it all, but it was always fun to put that costume on.
Insights from Marsden on Deadpool & Wolverine and His MCU Future
The Fox-Marvel films marked a significant chapter in the evolution of the comic book genre. This era played a pivotal role during a time when studios were still cautious about fully committing to superhero films. Both Jackman and Marsden have been integral to the X-Men franchise since its inception in the early 2000s, making Jackman’s return particularly meaningful for Marsden. His sentiments underscore the lasting emotional connection actors have to their roles and the impact of the Fox-Marvel legacy.
Speculation is rife regarding the future of Fox-Marvel characters in upcoming MCU projects, especially with titles like Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars on the horizon. Given Marsden’s positive remarks, it’s clear that he would welcome the opportunity to reprise his role as Cyclops, should Marvel Studios extend an invitation. However, for now, the extent of any potential return remains uncertain, as Marsden is likely bound by confidentiality agreements.
Our Perspective on Marsden’s Comments
It’s refreshing to hear Marsden express excitement for Jackman’s moment in the spotlight with Deadpool & Wolverine. His enthusiasm indicates a strong camaraderie between the two actors that resonates with fans. As the Multiverse Saga approaches its conclusion, it would not be surprising to see Marsden return to the MCU in some capacity. Until that happens, Deadpool & Wolverine stands as a fitting culmination of the Fox-Marvel era, celebrating its heritage in the superhero genre.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 20.
