Jane’s Addiction Cancels Tour Following Perry Farrell’s On-Stage Altercation with Dave Navarro

Jane’s Addiction has officially canceled their highly anticipated reunion tour following a shocking incident in Boston where frontman Perry Farrell punched guitarist Dave Navarro during a concert. This unexpected altercation took place on Friday, September 13, at the Leader Bank Pavilion, leaving many fans and crew members in disbelief.

The intense confrontation was recorded and quickly spread across social media. Farrell was forcibly removed from the stage by security personnel. On Monday, September 16, the band’s management released a statement confirming the tour’s cancellation.

“The band have made the difficult decision to take some time away as a group. As such, they will be cancelling the remainder of the tour,”the statement conveyed.

For the canceled shows, refunds are being issued at the point of purchase.

The dramatic moment unfolded while the band was performing their hit song “Ocean Size,”about 11 songs into their typical 14-song setlist. Fans managed to capture the escalating altercation between Perry Farrell and Navarro, which seemed to intensify rapidly. In the footage, Farrell appears to shout at the audience before turning his anger towards Navarro, who initially kept his composure.

As tensions escalated, Perry Farrell body-checked Navarro, who raised a hand to maintain space. Farrell continued to yell at Navarro, eventually throwing a punch. Crew members rushed onto the stage to intervene, holding the agitated frontman and escorting him off the stage while he resisted.

Navarro, along with bassist Eric Avery and drummer Stephen Perkins, remained calm in handling the situation. They stepped forward to thank the confused audience, offering peace signs and applauding their fans as the show concluded abruptly.

The altercation swiftly garnered attention on social media, with numerous fans sharing their reactions and jokes about the unexpected brawl.

One user, @deanasc1, tweeted,

Referencing other notorious band breakups, another user, @Tribecalledflex, remarked,

This dramatic scene also raised concerns over the well-being of the band members. Some fans speculated that tensions may have been brewing for some time, citing prior concerts where Perry Farrell’s health and behavior were in question.

Just days before the Boston incident, Perry Farrell confessed to fans in New York City that he was experiencing difficulties with his voice during a concert at the Rooftop at Pier 51.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I have to be honest with you. Something’s wrong with my voice. I just can’t get the notes out all of a sudden,”he stated.

Despite these vocal challenges, the following night’s performance reportedly showed improvement, with critics acknowledging that the band appeared to be in good form.

However, a review from an earlier concert in Tampa hinted at existing tensions between Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro, describing Farrell’s “nonsensical rants”during the show, while Navarro attempted to redirect the performance with loud, piercing chords.

Following the Boston incident, Jane’s Addiction took to Instagram to extend an apology to their fans.

“We want to extend a heartfelt apology to our fans for the events that unfolded last night,”the band wrote.

They also confirmed the cancellation of their show scheduled for Sunday, September 15, in Hartford.

Perry Farrell’s wife, Etty Lau Farrell, addressed the situation on Instagram as well. In a post accompanying the viral footage of the altercation, she explained that Farrell had been frustrated with the band’s stage volume, which he felt drowned out his voice. Etty mentioned that Perry was struggling with a sore throat and tinnitus, contributing to his emotional outburst.

“Perry’s frustration had been mounting, night after night,”she noted. “But when the audience in the first row started complaining… Perry lost it.”

She also commended Navarro for his attempts to de-escalate the situation, describing him as “handsome and cool in the middle of a fight.”

Renowned for their influential role in alternative rock since the mid-1980s, Jane’s Addiction had been about halfway through their reunion tour alongside fellow 90s band Love and Rockets. The tour was set to conclude on October 16 at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles.
