In a candid revelation prior to the renewal of TWICE’s contract with JYP Entertainment, leader Jihyo candidly shared her thoughts about almost resigning from her role. This admission has sparked discussions among fans and industry insiders alike.
Insights from the “Naraesik”Web Show
During episode 12 of the YouTube series “Naraesik,”which aired on December 4, Jihyo opened up about her experiences in the entertainment industry. She discussed feeling overwhelmed and burned out, especially in light of the group’s contract negotiations which were renewed in July 2022.
While all members unanimously agreed to extend their contracts, Jihyo revealed a moment of self-doubt where she contemplated stepping down as the group’s leader. She reflected on her initial perceptions of the leader’s role, stating, “When we first debuted, I didn’t think the leader did much. I would simply say, ‘two, three’ before introducing ourselves and during acceptance speeches.”
The Weight of Leadership
As time passed, Jihyo began to feel the real responsibility that came with her position. She expressed, “I’ve only recently felt the weight of this role. While it’s not entirely exhausting, I worry it might take a toll on my health.” Yet, she ultimately decided to embrace her leadership role, stating, “It’s just how I am; I can’t do anything about it.”
Close Bonds Within the Group
As the discussion continued, Jihyo addressed her relationships with her fellow members. Although MC Narae suggested she might be closest to Jeongyeon, Jihyo clarified that while she communicates with Jeongyeon frequently, her bond with all members is strong. “We’ve known each other the longest, and regardless of arguments, we understand each other deeply,” she explained.
Having trained together for years—Jihyo for a decade and Jeongyeon for seven years—their relationship has endured various challenges, often buoyed by their relaxed natures. Interestingly, Jihyo noted that when they do have disagreements, they do not feel compelled to resolve them immediately, saying, “Real friends don’t have to make up. We just check in with each other, asking, ‘Have you eaten?’”
