Charizard first appeared in the Pokémon anime in the memorable first-season episode, “Attack of the Prehistoric Pokémon.”Initially, Charizard was a rebellious presence within Ash’s team, evolving from a temperamental Charmeleon. This evolution challenged Ash and his friends to grow and improve as trainers. Over time, through mutual respect, they overcame their initial conflicts, leading to formidable adventures together, culminating in Charizard’s departure to join other fire dragons—a poignant moment reflecting his journey from a vulnerable Charmander to a powerful ally.

In Jim Lee’s depiction, Charizard is brought to life with intricate textures and powerful features: a spiked tail, a fierce snarl, meticulously scaled skin, sharp horns, and battle-worn wings. To finish this artwork, a colorist could beautifully apply Charizard’s signature orange hue, further elevating the already remarkable design.
