With JJK now officially wrapped up, many fans are left contemplating Gojo’s final outcome. • Gojo Ultimately Lost His Life to Sukuna

As Gojo was unsealed near the conclusion of the Culling Game Arc, a monumental battle against Sukuna was imminent. Fans were quick to realize that this would be the most significant clash in the entire series, a sentiment that remains unchallenged even now, regardless of the remarkable fights that followed. The confrontation between Gojo and Sukuna was an extraordinary spectacle where both sorcerers exhibited their abilities to the utmost. As the strongest sorcerers of their times, their encounter was bound to be nothing short of epic. During this battle, standard principles seemed to falter, underscoring the immense scale at which they operated.

Sukuna paid his respects… “Farewell, Gojo Satoru! I shall never forget you!”

While both sorcerers showcased impressive techniques, Gojo grappled with a significant disadvantage; Sukuna had access to both his own abilities and those of Megumi Fushiguro. The strength of the Ten Shadows was sufficient to rival Gojo’s Limitless and Six Eyes at their peak, as previously hinted by the author. Furthermore, the Shrine presented additional hurdles, making Gojo’s struggle even more arduous.

Among Sukuna’s Ten Shadows, Mahoraga emerged as the most formidable challenge, playing a vital role in Gojo’s defeat. Thanks to Mahoraga, Sukuna could enlarge the scope of his technique, breaking through Gojo’s Infinity, leading to Gojo’s tragic end in JJK chapter 236. Fans were left reeling by this decision, especially since Gojo had been the more dominant fighter in preceding chapters. His death felt anticlimactic and puzzling, sparking speculation that this was not the end for him.

As Gojo lost his life, the fight against Sukuna raged on. Meanwhile, UI Ui recovered Gojo’s body, transporting it to Shoko for medical attention. The healing process initiated signaled that Gojo’s narrative was not yet over. This was further explored when Yuta fell during his battle against Sukuna, suffering a similar fate—being cleaved in half. Just as with Gojo, Yuta was also taken to the same medical facility. In a twist of fate, right before passing, Yuta transferred his consciousness into Gojo’s body, utilizing Kenjaku’s technique that he successfully replicated. Essentially, Yuta employed reverse cursed techniques to their fullest extent, seamlessly integrating into Gojo’s form.

Yuta then re-entered the battlefield, engaging Sukuna afresh while inhabiting the body of his mentor. This subsequent round of combat was as thrilling as the first, albeit on a smaller scale and short-lived. The encounter kicked off with a clash of domains, which Yuta ultimately triumphed, even landing a Hollow Purple strike on Sukuna, a move that would typically be lethal.

Gojo quipped, “Haven’t we had enough of Gojo Satoru already?”

Unfortunately, due to Yuta’s lack of command over Gojo’s body, Sukuna endured, and the technique waned after five minutes, stripped Yuta of control. From that juncture, neither Yuta nor Gojo played a part in the battle against Sukuna; the responsibility lay with Yuji, who defeated the King of Curses with remarkable skill.

Post-war, fans were eager to understand the fates of both Gojo and Yuta, considering their circumstances were precarious on various fronts. The conclusion of JJK addressed fan queries in a manner that sparked intrigue.

By the finale of JJK, it was disclosed that Yuta Okkotsu had returned to his original body. Rika had persistently employed reverse cursed techniques to restore Yuta’s physical form completely. Subsequently, Rika maintained Yuta’s life while he occupied Gojo’s body, facilitating the transfer of his consciousness back to his original form. Rika essentially served as the anchor, allowing Yuta’s return, much to the satisfaction of fans. Conversely, Gojo’s body also underwent comprehensive healing via reverse cursed techniques and seemed poised for potential revival in fans’ imaginations.

Regrettably, the anticipated revival did not come to fruition, nor was it explored as part of the narrative. Gojo’s fate was conspicuously overlooked in the series conclusion, leaving fans disappointed, as neither his friends nor students offered any tribute. He did not receive even a symbolic farewell in the story’s final chapters. It’s evident that Gojo’s ending was incredibly lacking for a character of his immense caliber, leading many to feel that the author did not succeed in adequately honoring him.

Ultimately, Gojo’s conclusion ranked among the least satisfactory of any character’s in JJK, leaving fans discontented. Nevertheless, fans will forever cherish Gojo Satoru—the indomitable force who not only reigned supreme in strength but also captivated with his dynamic personality, consistently prioritizing his students. Despite the author’s failure to provide a fitting send-off, fans will remember him as Gojo Satoru, beyond just the title of “the strongest.”

The final chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen, JJK 271, was released on September 29, 2024. Readers can follow the series on the Manga Plus and Shonen Jump apps.
