On September 21, 2024, the South Korean rookie girl group KATSEYE officially announced via a press release that member Megan would be taking a hiatus from upcoming activities due to health concerns. In a statement shared on the social media platform Weverse, the KATSEYE community manager conveyed that despite the artist’s commitment, her health has deteriorated as a result of a back injury.
They stated:
“While Megan has made every effort to continue, her condition has unfortunately worsened.”
For those unfamiliar, Megan—whose full name is Megan Meiyok Skiendiel—is a member of the global girl group KATSEYE and an American singer signed under HYBE and Geffen Records.
KATSEYE Community Manager Confirms Megan’s Withdrawal from Asia Tour
According to the press release shared on Weverse, Megan’s back injury has prevented her from performing strenuous activities. As a result, she will not participate in the performances planned during the Asia promotional tour. The translated statement from Weverse reads:
“We regret to inform you that Megan’s ongoing back injury continues to restrict her involvement in heavy performances.”
Furthermore, the statement continued:
“After consulting with medical professionals, she will be stepping back from performances for the remainder of the Asia promotional tour.”
The announcement also indicated that Megan would be taking a break from group activities to fully recuperate, with the goal of returning stronger for future performances. The community manager urged fans to continue supporting Megan during this challenging time.
“Megan will focus on her recovery during this period, aiming to return stronger for future stages. We understand this may be disappointing, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience. We appreciate your understanding and continued support for Megan and KATSEYE.”
Megan gained attention as a contestant on the reality survival program The Debut: Dream Academy, where she secured fifth place in the finale. She was introduced as a contestant on August 29, 2023. Born on February 10, 2006, in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, she is currently 18 years old and associated with HYBE and Geffen Records.
Meanwhile, KATSEYE comprises six members: Manon, Sophia, Daniela, Lara, Megan, and Yoonchae. They officially debuted with their single Debut on June 28, 2024, crafted by esteemed songwriters such as Ryan Teddy, Tyler Spry, Grant Boutin, and Omer Fedi.
The single is part of their debut extended play, SIS (SOFT IS STRONG), released on August 16, 2024, which includes four additional tracks: Touch, My Way, I’m Pretty, and Tonight I Might.
Additionally, a Netflix docuseries titled Pop Star Academy: Katseye premiered on August 21, 2024, featuring eight episodes that explore the journey and creation of this international girl group.
