Kevin Feige’s Disappointing Update on Miles Morales’ MCU Spider-Man Debut

Essential Insights on Miles Morales’ MCU Journey

  • Fans are awaiting a live-action appearance of Miles Morales in the MCU until the current Spider-Verse trilogy concludes.
  • The potential for crossovers between Sony’s Spider-Verse films and the MCU stimulates excitement among fans.
  • The delay of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse suggests that Miles Morales might not appear in the MCU until after 2027.

Spider-Man enthusiasts have been buzzing about the possibility of seeing Miles Morales team up with Tom Holland’s portrayal of Peter Parker within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). During a recent presentation at D23 Brazil, Marvel Studios’ president, Kevin Feige, provided some clarity on this much-discussed topic, revealing that fans might need to exercise patience before a live-action Miles Morales debuts.

Since his introduction in 2011, Miles Morales has rapidly become a fan-favorite character in the Marvel Comics universe. This popularity was further amplified through his role as the primary protagonist in Sony’s groundbreaking animated features, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and its sequel, Across the Spider-Verse. With a third installment titled Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse currently in development, many fans are eager to see how Miles might be portrayed in live action, especially alongside other iconic characters in the MCU.

In an interview with Omelete, Feige expressed his enthusiasm for Miles’ inclusion in the MCU. However, he confirmed that this integration will likely need to wait until the conclusion of the Spider-Verse trilogy: “Miles will appear in the third ‘Spider-Verse’ movie, which is in production. I hope that, shortly after that, he can enter the MCU in live-action,” Feige elaborated.

The postponement of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, initially set for a 2024 release, has led to speculation that fans could be waiting approximately three more years before witnessing a live-action Miles Morales. The film’s delay was largely attributed to the 2023 actors’ strike, which halted key production work. As it stands, Sony has not provided a new release timeline for this anticipated film, increasing the likelihood that it will not premiere until 2027 or later.

Despite some debate over whether Sony’s live-action Spider-Verse films detract from the Marvel Studios narrative—especially with fans mistakenly linking these projects to Holland’s Spider-Man—there’s a palpable excitement around the potential for crossover events. In a notable example, the film Morbius included scenes that featured Michael Keaton’s Vulture, linking the Sony Universe to the MCU through a storyline initiated by Doctor Strange’s spell in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

While the existing Spider-Verse films are animated, fans have expressed hopes of a creative crossover that combines live-action with animation, reminiscent of Who Framed Roger Rabbit. This idea isn’t completely far-fetched; Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse intriguingly featured Donald Glover as a live-action version of Prowler, connecting the character’s animated roots to the real world. Future projects like Avengers: Secret Wars, scheduled for a release in 2027, could serve as prime opportunities for such crossovers, especially given the comic origins that explore multiverse interactions.

For now, fans will have to wait, with Spider-Man 4 slated for release in theaters on July 24, 2026, possibly providing further developments in this interconnected narrative.
