Sean “Diddy” Combs’ twin daughters, D’Lila and Jessie, are reportedly being cared for by their late mother Kim Porter’s close friend, Lala. This exclusive report from TMZ surfaced on September 17, 2024, just a day after federal agents arrested Diddy in New York City following a grand jury indictment.
As per the report, while Diddy’s three adult sons—Quincy, Justin, and Christian “King” Combs—were present during his recent court appearance, his 17-year-old daughters have been staying in Los Angeles with family friend Lala.
Although not much is publicly known about Kim Porter’s best friend, her real name is Lawanda Lane, according to her Instagram bio (@lalaelizalane), where she describes herself as “a mom, auntie,” and a professional in the fashion industry.
“I work with amazing people, travel, music, and movies. Lover of God, a conduit,” her bio states.
Lala has amassed over 16,900 followers on Instagram, where she frequently shares nostalgic pictures with Kim Porter, along with recent snapshots featuring D’Lila, Jessie, and their siblings.
According to TMZ, Lala has been actively involved in caring for the twins over the years but is not their legal guardian. She reportedly “oversees their day-to-day schedules” and serves as a mother figure.

Hip-hop mogul Sean Combs is a father of seven, including his teenage daughters D’Lila Star Combs and Jessie James Combs, born in December 2006 to him and his late partner Kim Porter. Although Diddy and Kim split in 2007, they remained devoted co-parents until she tragically passed away due to lobar pneumonia in 2018.
The twins, named after their grandmothers, are currently students at Sierra Canyon School in Los Angeles, where they are members of the cheerleading team.
In a February 2022 interview with Rolling Stone, the twins shared that they initially had “no experience” in cheerleading.
“I just wanted to try it because it was fun. Before this year, when I was in middle school here at Sierra, I saw the other cheerleaders cheering, and it looked so much fun, I wanted to try it,” stated Jessie.
D’Lila echoed her sister’s sentiments, adding they have “so much fun” with cheerleading. Earlier this year, the twins celebrated their victory at a national cheerleading competition at Disneyland, sharing the achievement on their Instagram (@the_combs_twins).
In addition to cheerleading, Diddy’s daughters are budding models, often seen on runways and attending high-profile fashion shows. In August 2021, they walked for Dolce & Gabbana’s Alta Moda event in Venice, Italy, alongside their elder sister Chance Combs (from Diddy’s relationship with ex-girlfriend Sarah Chapman).
They also provided glimpses of this event on their joint social media account. Similarly, in May 2023, the Combs twins graced the cover of V Magazine with Chance, revealing that their modeling aspirations were influenced by their late mother.
“It was very inspiring, watching her [Kim Porter] try on the clothes and take pictures. We always would watch her and know that that’s what we wanted to do,” D’Lila shared.
Since then, they have made appearances at Miami Swim Week in July 2023 and on magazine covers like Vanity Fair and Essence, posing alongside their elder sister and father. Notably, Jessie and D’Lila also performed as backup dancers for Diddy during his rendition of “I’ll Be Missing You” at last year’s MTV Video Music Awards.
At the same event, the twins honored their father with the Global Icon Award and showcased the album cover of *The Love Album: Off the Grid* during his acceptance speech. Afterward, they took to Instagram to express their pride:
“We are soooo proud of our amazing ICONIC Dad!!! He is our hero and deserves the world,” they wrote. “We are so happy we got to experience and celebrate this big moment with him. WE LOVE YOU SO MUCH @diddy.”
Along with their active presence on Instagram, Jessie and D’Lila also maintain joint TikTok and YouTube accounts, where they share snippets of their everyday lives, including their signature matching outfits. In December 2022, they celebrated their 16th birthday surrounded by Diddy, Quincy, Chance, and Coi Leray, who performed at the party organized by their father.
Sean Combs was taken into federal custody on the evening of September 16, from Park Hyatt Hotel on West 57th Street, Manhattan, New York City, following the indictment by a jury. The 14-page indictment details that Diddy is facing three felony counts, including racketeering, sex trafficking by force, and transportation to engage in prostitution.
During a court hearing in Manhattan on Tuesday, US Magistrate Robyn Tarnofsky denied Diddy bail, where he pleaded “not guilty.” If convicted on all charges, the hip-hop mogul faces a potential prison sentence of 15 years to life.
