Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remake is renowned for reintroducing some of the most challenging puzzles from its predecessor, making it a true test of wit as compared to the more action-driven Soul Reaver 2. Many players will find that the puzzles in Soul Reaver 2 are significantly easier to navigate, allowing them to progress swiftly through their challenges.
Following the defeat of Melchia, your journey continues to the enigmatic Silenced Cathedral. This region is filled with intricate puzzles, starting with the painted walls puzzle. This initial challenge sets the stage for a series of four puzzles, each unlocking switches that ultimately lead to the climactic boss encounter.

To navigate this section efficiently, take note that the only fast travel point is located outside the main building; thus, it’s advisable to tackle this challenge in one uninterrupted session. Upon entering, you will confront a substantial glass wall with a wooden door. Progress through this entrance and keep to the left wall, entering the first door you encounter.
Within this area, you will face several armed humans—feel free to sidestep them, as they do not pose a threat. Soon after, you’ll come upon a large gate. Transition to the Spectral Realm to pass through this gate and uncover a room filled with stone blocks containing openings that function like pipes. These openings will assist you in navigating upward to confront and defeat Zephon.
If you require a recharge, you can eliminate the lurking sluagh in the puzzle room, which will also allow you to regain stamina. Utilize the glowing point to phase back into the Material Plane, where you will now encounter several of Zephon’s minions. Defeat them and jump back up to your previous platform to absorb their souls, ensuring their permanent removal. Remember, these foes will respawn periodically as you work through the puzzle.
Your next task is to shove the pillar of blocks adjacent to your platform. Use this platform to push each block individually, allowing them to settle on the ground instead of stacking atop one another. Each block features different hole configurations which must align with the indents in the walls. To simplify your process, approach an indent, identify the required holes, and find a corresponding block that may need to be flipped to fit.
Listening for a clicking sound will indicate that a block has been correctly placed. Completing this puzzle will trigger a cutscene featuring four switches encased in glass, one of which will shatter, revealing a switch. This accomplishment marks the first segment of this interconnected puzzle, reminiscent of a similar challenge found in the Necropolis but spaced more broadly in this region.
Second Stone Pipe Puzzle Solution in Soul Reaver
To access the second puzzle, retrace your steps to the door that led to the first one and travel westward. Keep an eye on the left wall, where you will spot a large bell. Proceed further west until you find another door along the left side. This challenge mirrors the first puzzle but introduces an increased number of blocks to manipulate.
The larger quantity of blocks, scattered across the floor, can initially create confusion for players. Consequently, this puzzle may demand more time to complete, leading to a higher chance of encountering respawning enemies. To assist with navigation, we’ve included a video outlining the correct placements for each block, alleviating potential frustration.
Savvy players may also use these blocks to elevate themselves and absorb souls, helping mitigate the threat of being overwhelmed.
Silenced Citadel Crank and Stone Puzzle Solution in Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
Successfully completing the previous challenge will trigger another cutscene. Return to the bell you previously passed and activate it to produce a resonant chime. Next, head back to the glass wall and through the wooden door. On the left, notice a gap in the wall where flames flicker on either side. Proceed down this path and ring the bell at the end to shatter the glass wall, revealing a stone adorned with an engraving.
Approach the door of the second puzzle but resist the urge to enter. Instead, locate a crank on the north wall. Utilize this crank, and promptly shift to the Spectral Realm. Make your way back to the engraved stone near the second bell—the crank will have successfully displaced it. If you fail to shift realms, the stone will revert, compelling you to restart.
Vents Puzzle Solution in Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
Continue down the path behind the engraved stone to find two mechanisms freed from glass containment by your prior puzzle victories. While there’s an additional, optional puzzle along the way, it won’t unlock any remaining mechanisms. However, completing it will reward players with an Artifact that boosts maximum health.
Directly across from these switches lies a gate that can be phased through while in the Spectral Realm. Following the left pathway leads you to a chamber containing three vents. Open the middle and right vents to dismantle the glass cover of the third switch. Then, return to the gate and explore the other route to discover another set of vents. Repeat the process by opening both the middle and far-right vents. Completing these tasks will enable interaction with all four switches, triggering an updraft.
This updraft will help you ascend to the final section of the area, culminating in the Zephon boss fight. Before departing, be sure to collect the Sound Glyph, a powerful tool that will enhance your abilities and aid you in future challenges within the game.
