Major Changes to Runes in World of Warcraft Classic Season of Discovery

World of Warcraft Classic has rolled out an exciting update for the Season of Discovery, introducing Rune Broker vendors who offer nearly all class Runes for a mere copper each. Found in both starting zones and major capital cities, these new NPCs allow players to obtain Runes without having to complete the associated quests or challenges.

The Season of Discovery is Blizzard’s ongoing initiative to enhance World of Warcraft’s Classic experience by adding fresh content. A significant feature of this season is the introduction of Runes—special abilities that modify gameplay and can be engraved onto armor. Each leveling phase of Season of Discovery has brought new Runes for every class, achievable through various challenges, including enemy drops and complex quest lines. For instance, the coveted Warlock’s Metamorphosis tanking Rune requires navigating extensive quests across Azeroth.

Blizzard’s latest update now enables players to purchase these Runes directly through the Rune Brokers, eliminating the need for arduous questing. Introduced in the midst of Season of Discovery Phase 6, these dark and ominous-looking vendors with glowing blue eyes can be found in six key locations throughout Azeroth. This change facilitates instant access to Season of Discovery-specific abilities for both new and existing characters. However, players should exercise caution as obtaining Runes in this manner might interfere with the original questlines and secrets.

Players should note that not every Rune is available through the Rune Brokers; early-game Runes like the Paladin’s Crusader’s Strike and the Druid’s Fury of Stormrage must still be earned through quests in the starting zones, which can typically be completed in just a few minutes. Meanwhile, other enhancements, such as the WoW Classic Season of Discovery Skill Books, remain available only via traditional means.

Additionally, to make the most of these Runes, players will need suitable gear to engrave them onto. Starting zone vendors provide basic level 1 armor pieces such as chests, gloves, and boots, but finders of cloaks, helms, and rings may face more difficulty. Cloaks can often be acquired through drops early in the game, while rings are generally available starting from level 10, with helms appearing around level 20. Players with other characters in WoW Classic Season of Discovery can purchase account-bound rings at Revered and helms at Exalted from Durotar Supply and Logistics or the Azeroth Commerce Authority. This system allows brand-new characters to engrave Runes across all slots right after accessing a mailbox.
