Major Upgrade Released in Antonblast Update

Performance Update for Antonblast on Nintendo Switch

  • The Nintendo Switch version of Antonblast now achieves a frame rate of 60 FPS following a recent performance enhancement.
  • This update also addresses several bugs and introduces various unspecified adjustments.

In exciting news for gamers, the Nintendo Switch release of the much-anticipated 2D side-scroller Antonblast has received a significant performance update that allows it to run at 60 FPS. This improvement comes from developer Summitsphere and enhances the experience for players on the popular platform.

Lauded as one of 2024’s standout games on OpenCritic, Antonblast combines the speedy action of platforms like Crash Bandicoot with the adventurous spirit of Wario Land. Originally launched on PC on December 3, following a successful Kickstarter campaign, its Switch version faced delays until December 13 to ensure optimal performance. Unfortunately, even with this extra development time, early players reported issues with performance lags and occasional crashes.

On December 24, 2024, Summitsphere announced via Twitter the release of a holiday performance patch that boosts the frame rate to a smooth 60 FPS while also resolving several bugs. Although many players have confirmed these enhancements, some have pointed out that they still experience occasional frame rate dips below the targeted 60 FPS.

Antonblast Achieves 60 FPS Performance Boost on Switch

While several titles on the Switch successfully maintain 60 FPS, many graphically intensive games often require players to compromise on performance or visual quality. For example, the Switch version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt faced significant challenges, initially struggling to maintain even 30 FPS at 540p resolution.

The Nintendo Switch’s architecture, powered by a variation of the Nvidia Tegra X1 chip, has been considered outdated since the console’s debut in March 2017. Anticipation is rising for a potential successor, which may utilize the more powerful Nvidia Tegra T239 CPU. Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has indicated that further information about the new console will be available before the fiscal year ends on March 31, 2025.
