The anticipated delay of the Blade MCU has left many fans disappointed, yet fresh rumors suggest that Marvel Studios aims to kickstart production of the Mahershala Ali-led film sooner than anticipated.
Initially unveiled during the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios’ Blade reboot featured Ali alongside Kevin Feige, announcing his role as the iconic vampire hunter. However, the release date for Blade has faced multiple setbacks, recently being indefinitely delayed after losing its November 2025 spot to Predator: Badlands. Speculations arose that the reboot might be postponed until after the current Multiverse Saga, raising concerns among fans about a potential cancellation. Fortunately, a credible source has provided a hopeful update regarding the future of this beleaguered project.
Daniel Richtman reports that filming for the Blade reboot is set to kick off in the UK in 2025, although specific dates remain undisclosed. Richtman noted that this iteration of Blade will adopt a more modest budget and embrace a “grim”atmosphere. Additionally, Marvel Studios is currently revising the screenplay, but it remains unclear if Eric Pearson, the last writer associated with the project, will continue in that role.

In response to Richtman’s report, many fans remain skeptical. Given the numerous delays, there’s a prevailing sentiment of “I’ll believe it when I see it.”One Reddit user, @NotTaken-username, remarked, “I won’t believe Blade is happening until I’m actually seated in the theater.”Another user, @Patrick2701, stated they would only accept the reality of a Blade release once a trailer is available. Undoubtedly, fans are hesitant to raise their expectations just yet.
If the 2025 filming timeline holds true, the release of Blade still remains uncertain. Marvel Studios has plans for three untitled films set for release on February 18, May 5, and November 10, 2028. During a discussion with John Rocha, it was indicated that Ali was content with the delay of Blade. Insider Jeff Sneider expressed doubt that viewers would need to wait until 2028 for the film’s premiere, suggesting it could find its way into theaters on a date before then; however, this remains speculative.
Regardless of the uncertainty, it appears Marvel Studios is firmly invested in bringing Blade to life with Ali as the leading character. Mia Goth is reportedly still slated to portray the antagonist Lilith, although the changing production timelines have already led to the departure of certain actors. The ramifications of this new schedule on the cast remain to be seen, but fans may find solace in knowing Marvel is prioritizing getting the script right before commencing production. Nonetheless, continuous delays and revisions might lead to exceedingly high expectations for Blade.
