X-MANHUNT PART ONE! Following the fallout from the Orchis War, Professor Xavier willingly entered Graymalkin Prison to confront the consequences of his actions. However, recent events have compelled him to break free, igniting a frantic chase across the country. This raises critical questions: What forces have driven Xavier to flee, and how will his students react—will they shield him, try to recapture him, or even turn against him? In this opening chapter, Rogue and her allies must partner with their foe to betray their most trusted mentor!

Since the dissolution of the mutant nation, Charles Xavier’s followers have had to navigate their own leadership paths among the X-Men. Nevertheless, the debate about his actions remains combustible, particularly for Cyclops and Rogue, who are grappling with issues of forgiveness and loyalty.

Tom Brevoort elaborated on the rationale behind X-Manhunt, stating:

We’ve primarily kept various groups of X-characters apart as we established the landscape after Krakoa. Now seems the perfect time to bring them together, and who better to catalyze this than the controversial Professor X, who has ties with nearly every key character?

X-Men stories are often enriched when characters are grouped tightly, but the current isolation has called for a compelling reason to unite the mutant family again. With the conflicts stemming from Krakoa behind them, the longstanding ideological struggle between Xavier and Magneto has transformed into new challenges. The grudges that once defined their relationship no longer overshadow the present.

Despite some semblance of order in the aftermath of Krakoa, Charles Xavier remains an unresolved conflict of the past. His actions to protect mutantkind eroded trust within his own family. For some, like the members of Cyclops’s Alaskan X-Men, his choices were justified; however, others, such as Rogue’s Louisiana X-Men, view his actions as a betrayal, presenting a moral dilemma that the X-Manhunt aims to address.

The Krakoa Saga ultimately fostered unity among mutants, turning foes into allies and healing past grievances. As the X-Men settle into their current era, establishing clear identities becomes paramount. Each faction now bears distinct goals, from preparing for potential anti-mutant hostilities to opening new schools for the gifted. With Xavier on the run, the X-Men must confront their loyalties—defending him might lead to fractured relationships and difficult choices, yet it also serves as a catalyst for reconnection.

This intricate web of relationships and moral conundrums ensures that the X-Men’s journey remains captivating and relevant to contemporary discussions about identity, loyalty, and redemption.
