In the concluding month of Metaphor: ReFantazio, players will face formidable optional bosses during the Trials of the Dragon. Adventurers will encounter three dragons, concluding with a formidable super boss before the game reaches its final day.
Among the dragons, the Devourer of Nations stands out as the initial challenge. This boss is renowned for its sheer difficulty yet lacks complex mechanics, making it a straightforward yet formidable opponent. Below, we detail the optimal party setup and strategies to triumph over this daunting foe.
Preparation Tips for Confronting the Devourer of Nations
- Protagonist: Prince
- Junah: Royal Masked Dancer
- Eupha: Royal Summoner
- Basilio: Royal Berserker
- Recommended Boss Level: 70
Before attempting to defeat this boss, ensure you have acquired the Royal Archetypes for all party members. The encounter will be challenging, so equipping essential skills is crucial. Skills such as Dekaja, Dekunda, Makarakarn, and Tetrakarn will be invaluable. Equip fire-resistant or repelling gear, if available, and consider bringing items like Redgrass-Roasted Bidou, Ren Patra, and a comprehensive healing spell. Depending on the levels of your Archetypes, ensure you can effectively debuff the enemy’s attack and defense through Summon Dragon God (modified) or Peerless War Cry/War Cry.
Strategies to Defeat the Devourer of Nations
The Devourer of Nations possesses a unique characteristic: it repels fire but does not have additional elemental weaknesses. Consequently, even though this boss lacks complex mechanics, it will consistently use Great Dragon’s Wrath every turn to increase its attack power by two levels. This attack can often be executed twice in succession, leading to a significant threat. On the hard difficulty mode, the boss has access to four Press Turn icons and can unleash both single-target and group fire attacks alongside various physical strikes.
For defense, rely heavily on Makarakarn and Tetrakarn. Activate these spells on your less robust party members to potentially redirect the boss’s attacks back at itself, allowing it to waste turns. Each turn, utilize Dekaja to negate the boss’s attack buffs, forcing it to spend additional turns reestablishing its boosted power.
Junah should employ Hellfire Dance, which can override the boss’s fire resistance, making it vulnerable for a single attack. Additionally, deploying Summon Dragon God (modified) can exploit the boss’s weakness, while simultaneously reducing its attack and defense stats. Keep in mind that even if the boss uses Dekunda to restore its stats, that will still waste one of its active turns, granting you further opportunities to attack.
Basilio and the Prince will serve as your primary damage dealers; the Prince, in particular, can utilize Royal Sword repeatedly if you have the Utilitarian’s Manual at your disposal. Save the Hero’s Cry for critical moments, as it can rejuvenate the entire party in dire situations.
