Having grown up in a Pennsylvania known for its blue political leanings, it’s disheartening to witness the mounting support for Donald Trump in my home state. Fortunately, I’m not alone in my disapproval; fellow Pennsylvanian Michael Keaton also shares this sentiment and isn’t shy about expressing it.
Michael Keaton is a well-respected actor, and he has consistently made his political stance known. Recently, he utilized his social media platforms to address those who might feel compelled to support figures like Musk and Trump. His commentary comes in light of the numerous rallies held by Trump and his VP choice JD Vance in Western Pennsylvania, the area we both hail from.
“Hey there, Michael here. For those of you who are considering attending a rally featuring Musk and Trump—let me tell you, they don’t really value your presence,” Keaton stated in his video. “Behind your back, they’re laughing at you; they perceive you as foolish. There’s no genuine connection—they’re not your friends. When Trump, years back, claimed ‘I could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and they’d still vote for me,’ he was essentially implying that his supporters are unbelievably naive.”
Keaton concluded with a strong message: “They have no respect for you, believe me.”

Restore Pennsylvania’s Blue Identity
Ever since the 2016 election, I’ve felt a lack of pride in my home state. Pennsylvania has historically leaned blue, and for me, that’s always been the norm. However, this drastically changed in 2016 when it shifted to support Donald Trump. Watching a place I cherish transform into a Trump stronghold has been incredibly disheartening.
Fortunately, I witnessed Pennsylvania return to its roots during the 2020 election, as President Joe Biden narrowly clinched the state’s valuable 20 electoral votes. It was a relief to see the state realign. Given Trump’s recent focus on Pennsylvania, highlighted by his rallies in the Western part of the state, I can’t help but feel he views my hometown as gullible enough to support him. My hope is that Pittsburgh and its neighboring areas reclaim their blue heritage.
It would be amusing if Trump assumed he had Pennsylvania secured, only for the state to heed Keaton’s advice and reject him at the polls. That’s the vision I hold. It brings me joy when fellow Pennsylvanians leverage their influence to remind our beloved state about fundamental values. Pennsylvania has historically been blue, and Trump succeeded in misleading the hardworking individuals of this great state into thinking he cared (he doesn’t), and I earnestly wish we return to our blue status in the upcoming 2024 election.
I aspire to continue feeling pride in my roots from Pittsburgh, and that involves ensuring the 20 electoral votes support Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.
