Microsoft Introduces Major Updates to Game Pass Quests and Rewards Program

Overview of Upcoming Changes to Xbox Game Pass

  • Beginning January 7, Xbox Game Pass will launch Quests for PC players, granting rewards exclusively to users aged 18 and older.
  • The update will provide players with daily, weekly, and monthly opportunities to earn points, alongside the revival of Xbox Game Pass weekly streaks.
  • To qualify for rewards, players must engage with a variety of games for a minimum of 15 minutes each, but players under 18 will be excluded from these new opportunities.

In an effort to enhance user experience, Microsoft is implementing significant updates to its Game Pass service. These adjustments are designed to create “age-appropriate gaming experiences,”which restrict rewards to players who are 18 years or older.

Xbox Game Pass offers subscribers access to an extensive library of games on both Xbox consoles and Windows PCs for a monthly fee. The service features various subscription tiers that provide different advantages. With the new Quests and Rewards system, members can earn points by completing designated tasks, which can then be exchanged for various prizes. Starting January 7, these features will expand to include PC Game Pass members as well.

New Features in Game Pass Quests and Rewards

  • Quests will be accessible to PC Game Pass subscribers starting January 7.
  • New Game Pass quests will include:
    • Daily Play: Players can earn 10 points each day by engaging with any Game Pass title for a minimum of 15 minutes.
    • Weekly Streaks: By consistently playing for five days within a week, participants can complete their streak. Successfully maintaining this streak week after week can unlock significant point multipliers. For instance, players earn 2x the base streak points for two consecutive weeks, 3x for three weeks, and 4x for four weeks or more.
    • Monthly 4-Pack: Members are encouraged to play four different games for at least 15 minutes each month to earn rewards.
    • Monthly 8-Pack: For those looking to challenge themselves further, playing eight different games for at least 15 minutes each within the month is required, with the bonus that the games played for the 4-Pack count towards the 8-Pack.
  • The PC Weekly Bonus will reward players with 150 points when they play for at least 15 minutes on five days or more in a week.

The revamped Game Pass Quest system enhances ease of use, introducing multiple ways for players to accrue rewards throughout the week and month. By participating in daily gameplay or sustaining a weekly streak, players can boost their points significantly. Additionally, exploration through different games—not limited to familiar titles—opens a new dimension of engagement for users.

Weekly PC Bonus Rewards

Importantly, players who are 18 and older will benefit from a new weekly bonus for PC users that rewards them for daily engagement. As highlighted in Microsoft’s recent announcement, the firm is dedicated to fostering a gaming environment that is appropriate for various age groups, hence excluding players under 18 from these new features. Younger players can still earn rewards through parental oversight and by purchasing eligible items in Microsoft’s store.
