Moana 2 Nears Billion-Dollar Box Office Milestone
Moana 2 is making waves at the box office, rapidly approaching the impressive milestone of $1 billion. This animated sequel to Disney’s beloved 2016 film continues the journey of its titular character, voiced by Auli’i Cravalho, as she embarks on a new adventure alongside the iconic demigod Maui, played by Dwayne Johnson. After a strategic release the day before Thanksgiving in the U.S., Moana 2 has swiftly outperformed its predecessor, whose earnings stood at $643.3 million.
Record-Breaking Earnings and Future Projections
According to Box Office Mojo, Moana 2 has already amassed an impressive total of $900.6 million worldwide by the end of 2024. This achievement marks it as the fourth highest-grossing film of the year, trailing behind other blockbusters like Despicable Me 4 ($969.1 million), Deadpool & Wolverine ($1.338 billion), and Inside Out 2 ($1.699 billion). Industry analysts predict that this animated feature is on track to cross the $1 billion threshold in early 2025.
Domestic Achievement: Breaking into the Top 10
On the domestic front, Moana 2 has also made its mark, achieving a gross of $404 million. This financial success has secured its place in the Top 10 highest-grossing animated films in the U.S., surpassing the $381.6 million earned by the former No. 10 title, 2023’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
