Ncuti Gatwa Celebrates 1st Anniversary as the 15th Doctor in Doctor Who

Ncuti Gatwa recently shared his reflections on a year since he took on the role of the Fifteenth Doctor in Doctor Who. Officially introduced in May 2022, he made a memorable debut in the series’ final 60th Anniversary special, featuring a bi-regeneration alongside David Tennant. His first full-length adventure aired in the 2023 Christmas special titled The Church on Ruby Road, where he acted alongside Millie Gibson, who portrays his companion Ruby Sunday. Before properly starting, I didn’t quite realize the magnitude of what I was taking on, but it’s a magnitude of joy as well.

Reflecting on his experiences, Gatwa noted that despite facing challenges, he has relished every moment of portraying the Doctor. He highlighted the series’ scripts, acknowledging how they’ve contributed to his development as an actor. He stated:

It’s just been a lot of fun, like I’m always in a harness flying from the ceiling! It’s been a rollercoaster stepping into this institution. The show has had a huge impact for so many years, it’s part of our cultural fabric, so it’s quite something each time, each new season, each new episode.
