This speculation originated from a Famiboards user named LiC, who shared findings from Vietnamese customs records linked to a company thought to be one of Nintendo’s parts suppliers. These insights have fueled an array of rumors regarding the upcoming Switch 2 device since mid-2024, revealing a wealth of intriguing information.
In January 2025, LiC presented additional details on Famiboards, noting they had uncovered references to polyethylene (PE) adhesive tape listed in shipping documentation as material “to stick to game console handles.”The customs data described these pieces as “mouse soles,”a term traditionally associated with mouse hardware. This revelation hints that the forthcoming console could indeed support mouse-like operations through its controllers.
LiC further identified two model numbers for the mouse sole tape: LG7 and SML7. Game Rant could not locate these designations in any public parts database, implying they may pertain to new, unreleased components. According to LiC’s findings, these tape pieces are sized at 90 x 90mm—potentially large enough to fully cover the back of the new Joy-Cons. Nonetheless, given their square shape, adjustments during the assembly phase would likely be necessary.
Nintendo Switch 2: Not the First to Feature Mouse-like Mode
While implementing a mouse-like control mode is consistent with Nintendo’s history of innovation, it is worth noting that similar functionality is not exclusively new to this upcoming console. The right controller of Lenovo’s Legion GO serves as a mouse when held sideways in a joystick configuration. Lenovo even supplies a dedicated circular plastic piece designed to facilitate sliding across surfaces when in this mode.
Additionally, Lenovo’s 2024 handheld PC includes magnetic rails for the seamless attachment of controllers, a feature also rumored for the Nintendo Switch 2.
