  • Players can now utilize the Friends tab to identify who is participating in a raid and join them remotely.

Pokémon GO has rolled out an exciting update designed to enhance the raiding experience with friends. Raids are pivotal for capturing some of the rarest Pokémon available in the game, and this newly introduced functionality allows players to join one another’s battles, enriching their gameplay with added support and strategy.

Raids have evolved significantly since their inception in the summer of 2017, shortly after the game’s launch. Initially aimed at promoting physical activity by encouraging players to explore their surroundings in search of Pokémon, the raid feature was implemented to include community engagement. Over the years, developer Niantic has continually refined the raid system to bolster cooperative play, and this latest update further strengthens these social ties by allowing players to easily check their friends’ raid statuses.

Now, players can conveniently access their friends list to discover which of their in-game buddies are currently involved in a raid. According to the official Pokémon GO website, the process is straightforward: players navigate to the Friends tab within their Trainer Profile, where they can sort their friends under the new “At a Raid”filter. This displays the friends who are actively participating in raids, complete with details about the number of trainers waiting in that queue. If a player finds an open slot and possesses a Pokémon GO Remote Raid Pass, they can join the raid by simply tapping the Battle button.

Despite the benefits, there are some restrictions on which raids can be joined using this new approach. Players who are physically nearby can still utilize a standard Raid Pass to join the same raid. However, this feature primarily focuses on allowing players to quickly participate in a friend’s raid from a distance. Consequently, Pokémon GO Shadow Raids, Elite Raids, and other raids not accessible via a Remote Raid Pass will not be available through this method. Additionally, users have the option to conceal their raid activities from their friends if desired, and those who join a raid via the friends list will not have the ability to invite others to join.

The development team is also addressing an issue that prevents players from rejoining raids when they accidentally leave or suffer a network disruption. Niantic has committed to resolving this glitch in a forthcoming update. Players affected by this problem can submit a ticket through the app’s support system to seek compensation for any lost Raid Passes.
