Nicholas Hoult Shares X-Rated Gift from Nosferatu Director Post-Filming

Nicholas Hoult’s Unexpected Farewell Gift from Robert Eggers

Nicholas Hoult has recently disclosed an unusual memento he received from director Robert Eggers following the completion of filming for the much-anticipated Nosferatu. This horror film serves as a reimagining of the macabre narrative centered around the ancient vampire Count Orlok, paying homage to the iconic 1922 German silent film. Eggers showcases his signature style with Nosferatu, featuring Bill Skarsgård in the role of the sinister Orlok, Lily-Rose Depp as his object of obsession, and Hoult playing Thomas Hutter, a real estate agent who inadvertently finds himself ensnared in the vampire’s chilling domain.

Regarded for his masterful integration of horror and folklore, Eggers is setting the stage for a gothic cinematic experience that aims to revive and redefine this genre-defining classic.

Inside the Gift: A Playful Yet Dark Token

In a candid conversation with Elle, Hoult recounted a rather risqué gift from Eggers—Count Orlok’s prosthetic penis, framed and sent to his home as a wrap gift. Reflecting on a notable scene in which Skarsgård’s Orlok feasts on his blood, Hoult recalled:

I have Count Orlok’s prosthetic penis framed at home. There’s a scene where Bill Skarsgård is slurping my blood and Robert Eggers asked afterwards, ‘How was that for you?’ The director asked.

I said, ‘I could feel his prosthetic penis on my leg.’ Then, as a wrap gift, Rob got it framed and sent it to my house, but the frame broke when I got it. So I had to take it to the local frame shop. I went in, and the guy didn’t blink the first time, but when I returned to pick it up, he must have realized how odd it was to be framing what could potentially be a vampire penis. He asked, ‘Is this some kind of collector’s piece?’ I just smiled and replied, ‘You could say that.’

The Significance of Hoult’s Gift in Eggers’ Vision

Diving into the Vampire Mythos

Nosferatu Scene

Hoult’s whimsical yet darkly comedic gift speaks to the psychosexual themes integral to the narrative of Nosferatu, particularly the obsessive pursuit by Orlok of Thomas Hutter’s wife, Ellen (Lily-Rose Depp). Similar to Werner Herzog’s Nosferatu the Vampyre, which explored more dreamlike and intimate interpretations, Eggers’ adaptation appears set to delve into the more disturbing and personal dimensions of the vampire lore. Historically, vampires have embodied repressed longings and primal urges, and this relationship between Orlok and Hutter is expected to exemplify these unsettling dynamics.

Eggers has a reputation for blending historical integrity with surreal, atmospheric storytelling, demonstrated in critically acclaimed works such as The Lighthouse and The Witch. By drawing from both Murnau’s silent classic and Herzog’s surreal reinterpretation, he crafts a contemporary vision of Nosferatu that merges gothic horror with explorations of power, desire, and dread.

Hoult’s anecdote about receiving the prosthetic penis serves as an intriguing commentary on the complex psychosexual themes underlying Nosferatu. The story reflects a character archetype that straddles the line between grotesque and sensual, resonating with other vampire narratives like Interview with the Vampire, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, and Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

With Eggers at the helm, Nosferatu promises to transcend traditional vampire lore, delving into the deep-seated fears and desires that have rendered the vampire myth so enduring throughout history. Hoult’s quirky keepsake exemplifies Eggers’ commitment to his artistic vision, guaranteeing that audiences can expect a dark, haunting, and memorable cinematic experience.
