NieR: Automata offers players a diverse selection of weapons across various types, each allowing for a unique gaming experience through multiple playthroughs. Players can enhance their favorite weapons through upgrades, which make them effective throughout the game and even enable the use of most weapons from start to finish.

To upgrade your weapons, head to the Resistance Camp. Each upgrade requires specific resources, varying by weapon. One crucial item that players may find challenging to acquire is Beast Hides. In this guide, we’ll explore effective methods to obtain and farm Beast Hides easily.

Beast Hides are acquired as potential drops from wildlife like moose and boar. These animals spawn in specific locations and tend to flee from players and nearby robots. On your mini-map, wildlife is marked with white icons, contrasting with the black icons that represent machines. Unlike machines, wildlife has a low spawn rate, necessitating familiarity with their habitats for effective farming.

You can find moose and boar primarily in the ruined city and forest areas. Depending on your character’s level, these animals may either flee or become aggressive if attacked. If you approach a higher-level animal, it might attack even without provocation. Keep in mind that wildlife has substantial health pools, so engaging with animals close to or above your level early in the game can prove to be quite demanding.

To aid in hunting, consider utilizing Animal Bait, which can lure these creatures, making it easier to defeat them.

Wildlife doesn’t spawn continuously as enemies during the main storyline; thus, you must explore and defeat them before searching for new ones. Wildlife and machines share similar respawn mechanics:

  • Fast traveling resets all enemies and wildlife.
  • Moving far enough away causes previously encountered enemies and wildlife to respawn.
  • Certain story triggers can also lead to the respawn of nearby wildlife and enemies.

Ultimately, there’s no straightforward farming strategy for Beast Hides; your best approach is to eliminate any wildlife you encounter during your exploration of the forest and the ruins. Fortunately, Beast Hides have a relatively high drop rate, and unless you’re attempting to upgrade more weapons than you can carry at once, you’ll typically accumulate enough without excessive farming.
