Three years ago, Pedro Pascal expressed his thoughts on Din Djarin’s new N-1 starfighter in The Mandalorian, a ship introduced to replace his beloved Razor Crest. Fans of the series remain divided on the merits of both vessels; while the Razor Crest fits seamlessly into Din’s dual roles as a bounty hunter and a caregiver, the N-1 evokes a sense of nostalgia for aficionados of the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Each craft offers unique advantages for Din, but Pascal’s insights regarding the N-1 have gained renewed relevance, particularly in light of his character’s evolving narrative.
During an interview with IGN at Star Wars Celebration 2022, resurfaced by X user mando_musings, Pascal was queried about his preference between the N-1 and the Razor Crest. He humorously noted that while he enjoyed watching the new ship soar, “there isn’t a lot of space”and, importantly, “there’s no bathroom.” This light-hearted commentary holds a deeper significance, especially now that Din is back in the swing of bounty hunting.
Why Pedro Pascal’s Perspective on Din Djarin’s Ship Is Spot On
Din Djarin Has Outgrown the N-1
While the exchange surrounding Din’s logistical challenges—such as transporting carbonite-frozen bounties and even porta potties—provides comic relief, Pascal’s observations are rooted in practicality. Following the events in season 3, where Din Djarin transitions to working as an independent contractor for Captain Carson Teva and his New Republic rangers, the need for a more suitable ship becomes evident.
The N-1 starfighter lacks cargo space for Din’s bounty-hunting needs, especially as he embarks on missions alongside Grogu. If Din is set to traverse the galaxy frequently, recorded in the first two seasons, he must return to a ship with storage and comfort—features that the Razor Crest undoubtedly provides. Its two-level design and inclusion of a bathroom make it ideal for their extensive journeys, contributing to both Din’s work and Grogu’s growth as a Mandalorian apprentice.
The Return of the Razor Crest: A Possibility?
Recent developments in the Star Wars universe suggest that the necessity of a more accommodating ship has not gone unnoticed. Exclusive footage showcased at D23: The Ultimate Fan Event last August included a new version of the Razor Crest. While this particular ship appeared to belong to Zeb Orrelios, its presence hints at a potential future for Din Djarin. The Mandalorian has established a vital need for Din to reclaim a ship akin to the Razor Crest, and it seems as though he might finally achieve that goal.
