Colin O’Donoghue’s Thoughts on Returning as Hook
Colin O’Donoghue, renowned for his portrayal of Captain Hook in the beloved series Once Upon a Time, recently spoke about the potential of reprising his role. The popular ABC fantasy series, which aired from October 2011 to May 2018, ventured beyond television with expansions into comic books and novels, even inspiring a short-lived spinoff. The show’s unique ability to intricately weave together real-world elements with enchanting tales has sparked ongoing discussions about the possibility of a revival or sequel.
Colin O’Donoghue Discusses Future Possibilities
In a recent episode of the I’ve Never Said This Before with Tommy DiDario podcast, O’Donoghue shared insights about the possibility of a Once Upon a Time spinoff. While he recognized that the series still retains a strong fan base, he emphasized that any revival would ultimately hinge on the decisions made by Disney, the owner of ABC. His thoughts on returning as Hook were particularly intriguing:
Colin: I mean, that’s a big question, yeah. I guess I think it’s a question for the bosses, really, in Disney. I guess, you know, people love it and people still love it. So there’s a world where I think it could exist again.
So, what you’re saying is, you’re not opposed to possibly revisiting it?
Colin: I don’t know if I’d be a part of it, but yeah, maybe.
You would like the opportunity to decide at least.
Colin: Yeah.
The Significance of a Possible Revival
Interest from Key Cast Members
Despite its conclusion, Once Upon a Time had enough success to inspire the spinoff Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, which aired for one season with 13 episodes and further explored the magical universe established in the original series. While there remains ongoing speculation about a revival, it is noteworthy that no official announcement has been made regarding a reboot or sequel.
The speculation is fueled by several key original cast members, such as Ginnifer Goodwin, who portrayed Snow White, expressing willingness to return for a new project. Although co-creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz are presently engaged with other television endeavors, the enchanting framework of OUAT offers ample opportunities for a revival or a fresh reimagining, especially with a different creative perspective.

Timing Considerations
Given that the cast last portrayed their characters less than a decade ago, many may argue that now is not the ideal time to reignite this fantasy tale. However, as time passes and significant anniversaries approach, momentum could build to bring the series back. This consideration is particularly relevant given the rich, adaptable premise that lends itself to a variety of narratives and interpretations.
