In the realm of One Piece, Zoan Devil Fruits constitute one of the three primary categories. These unique fruits enable their users to seamlessly shift into an animal or a hybrid of human and animal forms, alongside their normal appearance. This transformation often leads to significantly heightened physical abilities as well as the acquisition of advantageous traits derived from the specific animal linked to the fruit.
The majority of showcased Devil Fruits come with names that describe the exact transformation their powers provide. However, some Zoan Devil Fruits don’t have clear identifiers, leading to a few users whose specific abilities remain ambiguous based on the limited information available.
6 Onigumo’s Devil Fruit
Enables Onigumo to Change into a Spider
- First Appearance: Chapter 420 (manga), Episode 302 (anime)
Vice Admiral Onigumo was part of the five officers sent for the Buster Call on Enies Lobby. Known for his unyielding belief in Absolute Justice, he favors using sabers as his weapons. His Devil Fruit allows him to take on a spider form, although the exact species, if any specific type is designated, remains uncertain.
Onigumo leverages this ability mainly to wield an additional six swords in battle, complementing the two he holds with his arms. This fighting style is somewhat akin to that of Hatchan and Hyouzou, who utilize their octopus-like traits to handle extra blades. The supplementary limbs appear to sprout from his hair, marking the primary employment of his Devil Fruit’s powers. There’s little indication that he exploits other potential spider abilities, such as web-spinning or venom, if he possesses those at all.
5 Epoida’s Devil Fruit
Grants Epoida the Ability to Turn into a Caterpillar
- First Appearance: Chapter 553 (manga), Episode 467 (anime)
Epoida serves as a subordinate captain within the Whitebeard Pirates, having sailed with the crew before he established his own following. While his full capabilities are uncertain, he is generally presumed to be quite formidable, as evidenced by other subordinate captains who can hold their own against Vice Admirals or can easily overcome Pacifistas.
Distinguished as the sole confirmed Devil Fruit user among subordinate captains, Epoida’s unnamed fruit permits him to transform into a caterpillar. However, the impact of this transformation on his combat effectiveness is largely unknown. In his hybrid form, his body seems to segment in a pattern resembling his striped shirt. It remains unclear if he can eventually evolve into a butterfly from his original state, much like Baron Tamago, who cyclically transforms from egg to chicken. Given Epoida’s minimal relevance in the series, this aspect and his fruit may remain largely unexplored.
4 Dalmatian’s Devil Fruit
Permits Dalmatian to Morph into a Dog
- First Appearance: Chapter 553 (manga), Episode 462 (anime)
Dalmatian, aptly named after the breed, is a Vice Admiral possessing a Devil Fruit that enables him to transform into a distinctive type of dog. As recognized by The Kennel Club, Dalmatians exhibit remarkable endurance and agility. While the exact extent of Dalmatian’s abilities has not been thoroughly examined, it is likely that these characteristics are essential for his Vice Admiral role. Dalmatian is predominantly seen in his hybrid form, showcasing a blend of canine and human traits across his facial features.
Instead of relying on weaponry, Dalmatian has honed his body through Rokushiki, achieving physical enhancement significant enough to pierce Luffy’s skin. This approach aligns him with various CP0 members who incorporate both Rokushiki and their Zoan forms in combat. Although it remains ambiguous how Dalmatian measures up against the likes of Rob Lucci, as a Vice Admiral, he presumably possesses considerable strength to uphold his title.
3 Stussy’s Devil Fruit
Transforms Stussy into a Vampire Bat (?)
- First Appearance: Chapter 860 (manga), Episode 830 (anime)
Stussy, a clone of the older pirate Miss Buckingham Stussy, who previously associated with Whitebeard—reportedly her lover—was created by MADS, a clandestine research institution formed by Vegapunk and other eminent scientists. Acting as a double agent for Vegapunk, Stussy managed to infiltrate Cipher Pol 0 for over a decade without raising suspicion.
In the Egghead Arc, she turns against Lucci and Kaku during their confrontation with Vegapunk, exhibiting the ability to grow wings and drain blood to incapacitate her adversaries. This represents the capability of a Devil Fruit, though specifics about its operational dynamics remain vague. Interestingly, this fruit appears potent enough to overcome users of awakened Devil Fruits, leading to questions about whether this reflects Stussy’s true strength or that of the fruit itself. It may belong to either the standard or Mythical Zoan category, given the real existence of vampire bats contrasted with fictional vampires in popular culture. There are some parallels with Patrick Redfield’s fruit from One Piece: Unlimited World Red, but exact abilities are yet to be revealed, positioning it within the Mythical Zoan classification.
2 Pomsky
Allows Pomsky to Morph into a Sea Otter
- First Appearance: Chapter 1089 (manga)
This Vice Admiral made his debut in the recently wrapped Egghead Arc, partaking in an incident termed the Egghead Incident. Aside from some intriguing details about his Devil Fruit, not much is known about him compared to other Vice Admirals.
Pomsky’s unnamed Devil Fruit enables him to take the form of a sea otter. Nevertheless, due to the intrinsic properties of Devil Fruits, Pomsky cannot harness one of the sea otter’s primary functions: effective aquatic movement. While land traversal is within a sea otter’s ability, many of its natural traits are optimized for life in water. Despite this limitation, Pomsky embraces the aquatic theme wholeheartedly, wielding a maul with a seashell-shaped hammerhead as his signature weapon.
1 The Five Elders
A Combination of Mythical Zoans
- First Appearance: Chapter 233 (manga), Episode 151 (anime)
The Five Elders serve as the public representatives of Imu, the true sovereign behind the scenes. Each Elder holds a distinguished title as the “Warrior God”of specific domains such as justice, economy, or agriculture. Despite one member’s death and substitution, many mysteries about these figures remain, including the identities of their alleged Devil Fruits. They are speculated to embody unique Mythical Zoan types, which are among the rarest classifications of Devil Fruits available.
Each Elder’s form is believed to be an Itsumade (Marcus Mars); a monstrous avian, a Fengxi (Topman Warcury); a demonic wild boar, a Bakotsu (Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro); a skeletal horse, a Sandworm (Shepherd Ju Peter); an enormous worm capable of consuming everything, and a Gyuki (Jaygarcia Saturn); a peculiar hybrid of bull and spider. All of them also seem to be of the “awakened”variety. The recent execution of Saturn leaves uncertainty regarding the Devil Fruit held by the new elder, Figarland Garling, or whether he possesses one at all.
