Path of Exile 2 Guide: Tips to Acquire More Uncut Spirit Gems

Path of Exile 2 introduces a fascinating new element known as Uncut Spirit Gems. Unlike conventional Uncut Skill Gems, these gems provide players the opportunity to choose from a range of Persistent Skill Buffs. These buffs are powered by Spirit, a fresh resource that can be permanently reserved, enabling players to benefit from continuous enhancements and summon minions that stay with them throughout their journey.

Acquiring Uncut Spirit Gems in Path of Exile 2 is not straightforward; players must complete specific challenges distributed across various Acts or defeat Rare enemies and Bosses in later Acts and on Cruel difficulty. It’s essential to note that these gems are quite scarce. However, as players progress more rapidly through maps and tackle increasingly challenging content, the chances of obtaining higher-level Uncut Spirit Gems also increase.

Bosses That Always Drop Uncut Spirit Gems

There are specific locations in Path of Exile 2 where players can expect near-certain drops of Uncut Spirit Gems. The recommended spots include:

  • Defeating the King in the Mists, the ultimate boss of the side quest ‘Ominous Altars’ in Act 1, ensures your first Uncut Spirit Gem drop.
  • Exploring the Golden Tomb area hidden within The Lost City zone in Act 2 can yield more gems.
  • In Act 3, players should take on Igdanduk, The Bog Witch, to increase Max Spirit and receive another Uncut Spirit Gem.

While the Bog Witch does not guarantee a gem drop, it does offer a higher probability than other bosses. Notably, both the King in the Mists and the Golden Tomb present guaranteed Uncut Spirit Gems in addition to their one-time Spirit bonuses upon first encounter.

Some players have reported issues with receiving either an Uncut Spirit Gem or a consumable Max Spirit item from the Golden Tomb, which seems to be a bug. If this occurs, recreating a new instance of The Lost City may resolve the issue and allow access to the Golden Tomb area again.

Increase Your Chances by Defeating Rares and Bosses

Beyond the three notable sources for Uncut Spirit Gems, players can occasionally find them from Rare and Boss enemies throughout the game. While all foes have a slight chance of dropping these valuable gems, Rares and Bosses present more favorable odds than Normal or Magic enemies.

For optimal farming, tackle areas that are two to four levels below your character’s level. This strategy allows you to traverse through enemies with ease, facilitating faster kills of Rares and Bosses. However, be wary—venturing below four levels can lead to diminished XP and subpar item rewards.

Additionally, it’s prudent to loot every chest and storage container encountered during your runs, as Uncut Spirit Gems can sometimes be hidden in these environmental caches.

While players in Acts 1 and 2 are unlikely to see many Uncut Spirit Gems drop outside of the previously mentioned bosses and the Golden Tomb, those progressing into Act 3, Cruel difficulty, and the endgame will notice an increase in drop rates from various sources.
