Engaging in side quests can significantly accelerate your advancement in Path of Exile 2. These quests not only provide valuable experience points and currency but also grant unique rewards that are often challenging to obtain through standard grinding methods. One notable quest, “Treasures of the Utzaal,”directs players to explore a loot-rich ruin that can enhance their power and capabilities.
However, navigating this quest can pose a considerable challenge, particularly for newcomers to the game.
Where to Locate the Molten Vault in Path of Exile 2
The “Treasures of Utzaal”quest invites players to uncover the mysteries of the Molten Vault, reputed to be filled with treasure as claimed by Oswald. This vault is situated in the Drowned City of Act 3. To access it, players must first drain the water surrounding the base of the Ziggurat Encampment, a task that naturally unfolds as you progress through the main storyline of Path of Exile 2.
It’s important to note that the game’s maps are procedurally generated, meaning that each player may encounter the Molten Vault in different locations across various instances. A reliable strategy is to stick close to the edges of the map while exploring until you spot the entrance. Once you arrive, you will see a prompt to summon Oswald in front of a distinctive blue portal, signaling that you have reached your destination.
Exploring the Molten Vault
Once inside the Molten Vault, the primary objective is to clear the area. This entails locating and defeating Mektul the Forgemaster, a formidable boss residing in the Auroduct segment of the vault. Mektul is hard to miss; simply look for the large pool of molten gold with him hammering away at the barrier containing it.
The vault is packed with chests, making it an excellent spot for loot farming while engaging with high-level enemies (level 40 and above) in Path of Exile 2.
Defeating Mektul can be particularly strenuous if your character is undergeared. Successfully winning this encounter hinges on your damage per second (DPS) output. As you battle Mektul, watch out for the creeping molten gold moving toward you, as you’ll need to balance your offensive strategy with retreating to avoid being submerged. The Auroduct area is lengthy, but if you take too long, the rising molten gold could spell doom.
While Mektul is manageable for ranged characters, he presents a significant challenge for melee players due to his predictable but powerful attacks. Equip yourself to dodge effectively, whittling down his health until he succumbs, rewarding you with the Hammer of Kamasa for Oswald.
To maximize damage, try to lure Mektul away from the lava. If his defeat proves elusive, consider returning with better gear and higher levels.
