Path of Exile 2 offers a wealth of avenues for players to enhance and customize their gear through intricate crafting methods. Among these options is the Reforging Bench, a unique feature that allows players to recycle and upgrade items.
This Reforging Bench enables players to combine three identical items of the same type to create either a new or an upgraded version. However, this tool isn’t immediately available; players must complete a specific quest located in Act 3, which involves battling the Forgemaster in the treacherous Molten Vault.

Transform Three Items into a Similar or Enhanced Item
The Reforging Bench in PoE 2 allows players to input three items, which will be consumed to produce a new item that shares the same base type or is an upgrade. Players can access the Reforging menu by interacting with the Bench found in town. Importantly, the items placed in the designated slots will be lost permanently in exchange for the new item produced in the top slot.

Once you confirm the action by pressing the Reforge button in the pop-up menu, the chosen items are permanently transformed, and recovery of the original items is not possible.
Unlocking the Reforging Bench in PoE 2
Defeating the Forgemaster to Unlock Reforging
The quest to unlock the Reforging Bench begins in Act 3, when Oswald tasks players with locating The Molten Vault. To initiate this, head back to the Ziggurat Encampment after your first visit to The Drowned City and speak with Oswald, who will assign you the quest titled “Treasures of Utzaal.”
The entrance to The Molten Vault lies at the perimeter of The Drowned City, so make sure to explore these areas carefully. Players will know they’ve discovered the entrance when their character comments about it, and the option to summon Oswald becomes available.
Once inside The Molten Vault, navigate through the dungeon until you reach the boss area. A bridge leads over molten lava, guiding you into the arena where you must fight Mektul the Forgemaster. After defeating the boss, collect the Hammer of Kamasa and return it to Oswald at the Ziggurat Encampment to complete the quest. Upon doing so, the Reforging Bench will be permanently located next to the Salvage Bench at various encampments, making it accessible throughout the game.
From that point forward, players can find the Reforging Bench alongside the Salvage Bench in each act and during endgame content, allowing for ongoing item enhancement opportunities.
