Phasmophobia Major Overhaul: Impact on Every Contract You Play

Phasmophobia Major Overhaul: Impact on Every Contract You Play

As 2025 approaches, Kinetic Games, the innovative team behind the acclaimed Phasmophobia, has offered players an intriguing glimpse into the forthcoming major update. Since its debut in October 2020, Phasmophobia has carved a niche as one of the pioneering objective-based cooperative horror games, inspiring later titles such as Lethal Company and Content Warning. Players are tasked with gathering evidence to identify a variety of ghosts haunting diverse environments. Despite the game remaining in early access on Steam for four years, it continues to receive a steady stream of updates that enhance its gameplay.

In a recent announcement published on the Kinetic Games blog, the developers provided exciting details about the game’s next significant update, which is slated for release at an unspecified time in 2025. This update is described as a “major overhaul”that is expected to transform all gameplay contracts significantly. Among the anticipated changes are a revamped Journal system and an enhanced post-contract quality monitoring system, in addition to new equipment and an extensive map rework.

Major Additions in the Phasmophobia Update

What to Expect from the 2025 Update

Among the most significant changes coming in the upcoming update is the introduction of a new “Media”tab within the Journal, which will replace the current Photos section. This new tab will not only house photos but also video captures from players’ experiences and a new tool known as the Sound Recorder. Rather than being solely assessed on quality, captures will receive ratings based on their uniqueness, with less frequent capture types yielding heightened rewards in both currency and experience points.

Moreover, player interactions will now be recorded on video instead of still images, encouraging a diverse range of capture types. The Journal’s Media tab will categorize video captures, documenting thrilling moments such as a door mysteriously closing, visions captured via the DOTS projector, or a moving Planchette on a Ouija board—occurrences that static photographs may struggle to effectively portray.

Enhanced Equipment and Map Overhaul in Phasmophobia

In addition to the Media tab enhancements, the update will introduce the highly anticipated Sound Recorder, enabling players to capture “unique paranormal sounds”for inclusion in their Journal. This addition will provide gamers with a third category of evidence to pursue actively. Beyond equipment updates, the blog post reveals plans for a complete overhaul of the Bleasedale Farmhouse location, featuring a redesigned layout, visual upgrades, and entirely new areas to explore. Additionally, fans can look forward to a mysterious enhancement pertaining to the Grafton Farmhouse, linked to the Krampus lore.

Though there’s no specific release date for this exciting update, it is under active development for 2025. Players can remain optimistic about future enhancements, although the timelines for Phasmophobia exiting early access remain uncertain. Continuous updates should further enrich the gameplay experience and provide new layers of engagement for fans.
