For several years, Pokemon GO has celebrated Halloween in two distinct phases. Although details about the first segment of this year’s festivities have surfaced, official information regarding the second part remains absent. Nevertheless, a recent datamine hints at the addition of new costumed Pokémon alongside a Gigantamax creature set to join the game.
This datamine came soon after Niantic’s announcement concerning the introduction of Gigantamax features in the mobile game, adding credibility to the findings.
Insights from the Datamine for Pokemon GO’s Halloween Part 2
A tweet from the Pokemod Group unveiled sprites for new costumed versions of both Rowlet and Froakie, including their shiny forms. However, it’s not yet confirmed whether these Pokémon will be obtainable through research tasks or encountered in the wild.
The datamine also indicates that Gigantamax Gengar will appear during this year’s Halloween event. With Dynamax Gastly already confirmed for the event’s first segment, the introduction of Gigantamax Gengar will likely allow players to utilize Gengar in Max Battles, especially for those unable to engage in Gigantamax Raids.
Considering the potential challenges posed by Gigantamax Raids, players in less populated areas may find it difficult to battle against Gigantamax Gengar. Conversely, Dynamax Gastly will serve as a One-Star Max Raid Boss, providing a more manageable challenge for trainers who wish to fight solo.
Trainers can evolve their Dynamax Gastly into a Dynamax Gengar, giving them a Ghost-type option for use in Max Battles.
Strategies for Overcoming Gigantamax Gengar in Pokemon GO
Due to the limited selection of Max Pokémon in Pokemon GO, there are no guaranteed counters against Gigantamax Gengar. The most effective picks are Dynamax Gengar and Metagross, both of which feature powerful moves that can deal super-effective damage to Gengar. However, choosing these Pokémon carries risks, as they are susceptible to Gengar’s potent Ghost-type attacks.
Another solid choice is Greedent, utilizing Bite and Crunch. With its Normal typing, Greedent possesses a resistance to Gengar’s Ghost moves. These Dark-type attacks deal super-effective damage; however, since Greedent isn’t a Dark-type, it won’t gain Same-Type Attack Bonus (STAB), which can significantly reduce damage output.
Gigantamax Raid Battles will accommodate a larger group of participants, allowing up to 40 players per raid. Therefore, in areas with ample trainers, tackling these challenges should be manageable.
