Pokémon TCG Pocket has been consistently hosting various events since its inception in October 2024. These events provide players with multiple opportunities to engage in the game and earn limited-time rewards. From Wonder Pick events that encourage free selection to Emblem events that incentivize battle participation, Pokémon TCG Pocket continually offers enjoyable experiences for players. Notably, the standout features of these events have been the promotional drop events, including the Lapras EX and Venusaur drops held in November and December 2024, respectively.
During these special events, players had the chance to unlock a unique promo pack containing one of five exclusive cards by battling against AI opponents. The thrill of obtaining rarities like the Lapras EX or full-art Venusaur made these drops highly memorable. Despite this success, Pokémon TCG Pocket missed a significant opportunity to integrate the excitement of promo pack openings with festive holiday themes, especially considering the rich variety of holiday-themed card art available in the Pokémon TCG universe.
A Missed Opportunity for Special Holiday Promo Packs
Abundant Holiday-Themed Card Art in Pokémon TCG
The Pokémon TCG boasts a rich history of engaging card art spanning 25 years, providing a treasure trove of nostalgia for fans. Many players cherish special holiday-themed promo cards featuring beloved Pokémon in festive scenes, such as the Neo Revelation Jumpluff or Expedition Flaaffy, which showcase their cheerful antics in winter settings. These nostalgic artworks encapsulate the joy of the season, making them highly sought after.
In recent years, Pokémon TCG advent calendars have served as an excellent source for delightful holiday card art. A standout card from these calendars is the Delibird from the Sword and Shield: Chilling Reign set, which depicts the Pokémon joyfully delivering Christmas gifts. Regrettably, these festive cards have yet to make an appearance in Pokémon TCG Pocket, and the lack of integration during this holiday season is disappointing.
Currently, Pokémon TCG Pocket is hosting a daily login holiday event that rewards players with useful items such as Pack Hourglasses and exclusive Mythical Island packs, alongside a Winter Holiday Frame backdrop through event missions.
Expanding Holiday Events for Pokémon TCG Pocket in 2025
As Pokémon TCG Pocket is in its infancy, there remains immense potential for growth in the coming year, particularly regarding its holiday events. While the game frequently features events themed around specific Pokémon or gameplay types, embracing the spirit of various seasons with themed events would significantly enhance player engagement. This approach could mirror the successful seasonal celebrations seen in other mobile titles like Pokémon GO and Pokémon Unite.
To further enrich the player experience, seasonal promo card events could encompass holidays beyond just winter festivities, including Halloween, Lunar New Year, and the Spring Equinox. The Pokémon TCG’s Trick or Trade set offers an excellent range of Halloween-themed promo cards, while the 1st Anniversary Simplified Chinese Collector’s Box provides ample material for a memorable Lunar New Year event. Although Pokémon TCG Pocket’s existing events are already enjoyable and facilitate easy rewards, future events could capitalize on the popularity of seasonal-themed cards for an even more engaging player experience.
