Season 4 of Netflix’s The Witcher is attracting considerable attention due to a notable shift in the cast, particularly with a new lead portraying Geralt of Rivia. It seems that Henry Cavill won’t be the only witcher leaving the series behind as it enters its next chapter.
The series, based on Andrej Sapkowski’s literary works, narrates the adventures of Geralt, a witcher, who is a monster hunter endowed with supernatural abilities. For three seasons, actor Henry Cavill, a dedicated fan of the franchise, brought Geralt to life. However, in a surprising turn of events, it was revealed in 2022 that he would be vacating the role without an explanation. Despite this, production on Season 4 of The Witcher has moved forward with Liam Hemsworth stepping into the role previously held by Cavill.
Recent reports indicate there will be more cast alterations, with Redanian Intelligence revealing that Kim Bodnia will not reprise his role as Vesemir in the upcoming season. Bodnia portrayed the character in Season 2, acting as Geralt’s mentor. There has been no confirmation about who will take over the role, but given that Redanian Intelligence has previously provided accurate information regarding the show, the news seems credible. Vesemir is expected to make a return in Season 4, but it’s clear that Bodnia will not be associated with it.
The reasons behind Bodnia’s exit remain unclear; however, considering he was not part of Season 3, he may have pursued other opportunities during that time, which could lead to scheduling conflicts now. Bodnia is currently involved in several projects, including Joseph Kosinski’s F1 film alongside Brad Pitt, and Momo featuring Martin Freeman. Furthermore, it has been confirmed by Redanian Intelligence that familiar faces Lambert and Coen, portrayed by Paul Bullion and Zates Atour, respectively, will return in Season 4, hinting at an anticipated reunion of the witcher group which fans missed in the previous season.
Throughout its airing, Netflix’s The Witcher has faced a range of reviews. While Cavill’s portrayal was highly praised, some viewers expressed dissatisfaction with the series’ deviations from the source material. Bodnia’s role as Vesemir received acclaim in Season 2, yet the upcoming season will require a new actor to step into that role, indicating further changes for The Witcher. Additionally, Laurence Fishburne is slated to join the cast as the beloved character Regis, ensuring that the series will maintain a high-caliber ensemble. Ultimately, these multiple cast adjustments might just pave the way for The Witcher to embark on a new chapter in Season 4, enticing fans anew.
The Witcher Seasons 1-3 are currently available for streaming on Netflix.
