On September 16, Sean “Diddy” Combs, a prominent figure in hip-hop, was arrested by the FBI in Manhattan, New York City, following a grand jury indictment. The specifics of the charges have not yet been made public. In response to his arrest, U.S. Attorney Damian Williams informed the media in a statement:
“Earlier this evening, federal agents arrested Sean Combs, based on a sealed indictment filed by the SDNY (Southern District of New York). We expect to move to unseal the indictment in the morning and will have more to say at that time.”
In the meantime, Diddy’s attorney, Marc Agnifilo, expressed disappointment regarding the decision to pursue what he deemed an unjust prosecution against Mr. Combs by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. He noted that his client had been “cooperative with this investigation,” and had “voluntarily relocated to New York last week in anticipation of these charges.”
The news of Sean Combs’ arrest and indictment has sparked a range of reactions online. For example, an X user @slvppy commented on influencer Kira’s (@kirawontmiss) post regarding the situation, employing a meme that referenced R. Kelly, the former musician currently serving over thirty years in prison for federal racketeering and s*x trafficking charges.
“R Kelly waiting,” the user mockingly commented about Diddy.

Analyzing Diddy’s Arrest Following Grand Jury Indictment
On Monday evening, Sean Combs was apprehended by federal authorities at the Park Hyatt Hotel on West 57th Street in Manhattan. Reports suggest he was set to be arrested on Tuesday following the sealed grand jury indictment; however, the FBI acted sooner than anticipated, catching him by surprise, according to an insider.
Diddy, who had reportedly been residing at the upscale Manhattan hotel for several weeks, appeared to cooperate with both the investigation and his arrest. Nonetheless, his attorney, Marc Agnifilo, stated they were “disappointed” with the actions taken and deemed it an “unjust prosecution” by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
“Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is a music icon, self-made entrepreneur, loving family man, and proven philanthropist who has spent the last 30 years building an empire, adoring his children, and working to uplift the Black community. He is an imperfect person, but he is not a criminal,” Agnifilo asserted.
The lawyer emphasized that Combs is an “innocent man” with “nothing to hide,” and his legal team is eager to “clear his name in court.”
While the specific charges against Diddy remain unclear, they could relate to a federal raid on his properties in Miami and Los Angeles earlier this year. In March, agents searched Combs’ residences on both coasts as part of an ongoing Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) operation.
Footage of the raid went viral, showing numerous associates of Diddy being detained and later interviewed, including his sons Justin and Christian. Following the incident, reports indicated that agents seized firearms and various electronic devices from both locations. At that time, Combs’ legal team condemned the raid as a “gross overuse of military-level force.”
An insider informed NBC News that the raid concerning Bad Boy Records owner Sean “Diddy”Combs was linked to ongoing allegations of s*x/human trafficking, s*xual assault, as well as illegal narcotics and firearms. The raid warrant issued on March 25 stemmed from the same Southern District of New York involved in the sealed indictment.
Since November 2023, Diddy has been embroiled in multiple lawsuits, beginning with allegations from his ex-girlfriend Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, followed by claims from his former collaborator Rodney “Lil Rod”Jones and adult film star Adria English. Diddy has refuted all accusations.
