THE GREAT ESCAPE! Thunderbolt Ross will devise a plan to escape the “Think Tank,”where Doctor Doom has kept him captive. After being confined for so long, the powers of the Red Hulk are waning, and he will need the assistance of a motley crew including Machine Man, Deathlok, and the formidable General Simon Ryker, to outsmart and overpower the relentless Doombots on their trail.

In a twist of fate, Ross has been co-opted by Doctor Doom, conscripted to contribute to the villain’s vision of a “better”world through his unique insights and military expertise. However, it is evident that the Red Hulk has no intention of serving as a mere pawn in Doom’s game.

Thunderbolt Ross may have enjoyed a prominent military career, but he has now evolved into a monstrous shadow of his former self. This narrative introduces a team bolstered by some of Marvel’s premier military cybernetic minds. The three cyborgs assembled are not only historic figures within the Marvel universe but also present an unusual avenue for the Red Hulk to regain his freedom. Each member has a deep-rooted connection to the military, focusing on the frontier of cybernetic warfare, and General Simon Ryker stood at the forefront as the military’s chief cyberneticist, aiming to forge the perfect cyborg.

Working alongside his brother Harlan, Ryker succeeded in creating a groundbreaking cyborg: Deathlok. Utilizing the time-displaced body of the original Deathlok, two distinct iterations emerged—one from a volunteer soldier, John Kelly, and the other from a reluctant and traumatized soldier, Luther Manning. It remains to be seen which version of Deathlok will join Ross in this struggle. As for Machine Man, also known as Aaron Stack, he began as another weapon of war but eventually broke free, going on to align himself with the Avengers and even the Celestials.

A recurring theme within this team is their collective identity as “others.” Luther Manning, the original Deathlok, comes from Earth-7484, while his Earth-616 counterparts exist merely as copies. In Manning’s universe, the Ryker brothers created the Deathlok following a grievous injury inflicted by their realm’s Doctor Doom. The identity of the Deathlok featured in this iteration remains a mystery. Similarly, Machine Man is but one of 52 versions, all of which ultimately succumbed to madness. In fact, the last we saw of the real Aaron Stack, he had been transformed into a Sentinel and exiled into space alongside the Celestials.

While the team’s combination of military innovation and cybernetic advancements may appear odd, the Red Hulk stands as the perfect embodiment of a monstrous military experiment to guide this motley crew.

At the core of this alliance is their formidable leader, the Red Hulk. Once a revered general, Thaddeus “Thunderbolt”Ross sacrificed his honor by forming uneasy alliances with figures like MODOK and the Leader, ultimately becoming the very monstrosity he once sought to obliterate. To conceal his transgressions, Ross employed an LMD to create a façade of innocence while he continued his relentless pursuit of the Hulk. This new team, although unconventional, is united under the charismatic leadership of the Red Hulk, ready to carve their path against tyranny.
