Release Date and Confirmed Cards for the Pokémon TCG Pocket Mythical Island Set – Preparation Guide

Release Date and Confirmed Cards for the Pokémon TCG Pocket Mythical Island Set – Preparation Guide

The Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket is gearing up to unleash its inaugural expansion titled Mythical Island, introducing players to an exciting array of new cards and deck-building dynamics. Following the recent launch of the Pokémon TCG Pocket, players have eagerly embraced the initial set, Genetic Apex. The current competitive landscape has already begun to shape, with cards such as Pikachu ex and Mewtwo ex leading the charge in online tournaments. However, the arrival of Mythical Island promises to bring a fresh wave of strategies and possibilities.

This new expansion will introduce more than 80 innovative cards, including several new Pokémon ex variants and alternate art cards. As suggested by its title, the Mythical Pokémon Mew will play a prominent role in this set, prominently featured in digital booster pack graphics and marketing material. Unlike the previous set, which was divided into subsets, Mythical Island will consist of a single type of booster pack, as indicated in the recently released trailer. Additionally, players can anticipate new accessories like binders and display boards to complement their collections.

The wait for Pokémon enthusiasts is short, as Mythical Island is set to debut on December 17th, 2024. Players can dive into the new packs right away using either Pack Hourglasses or their daily complimentary packs.

While the exact launch time remains unclear, past events for Pokémon TCG Pocket typically commenced at 1 AM ET. Thus, players can expect a similar timing for accessing the Mythical Island content. Post-launch, users can seamlessly switch between Genetic Apex and Mythical Island packs through the main interface.

The expansion will also feature an assortment of new display boards and binders, including a specially designed binder showcasing Serperior, Stonjourner, and Beheeyem, along with a new decorative display board featuring an eye-catching leaf motif. These will be available in-game for shop tickets. Additionally, players can look forward to a series of solo event challenges designed around new decks. Among these challenges are riveting matchups featuring decks that include Mew ex, Mewtwo ex, Aerodactyl ex, Marowak ex, Blue, and Pidgeot ex.

Preview of Mythical Island Cards

Recent leaks indicate that Mythical Island is not a full-fledged set compared to Genetic Apex, which comprises 226 cards (excluding alternate art versions). Instead, Mythical Island will feature approximately 80 new cards, including some debuting in Pokémon TCG Pocket and others returning from previous sets. Presently, confirmed cards from the upcoming expansion include:

  • Mew ex
  • Aerodactyl ex
  • Morelull
  • Dreams
  • Exeggcute
  • Dhelmis
  • Larvesta
  • Magmar
  • Vaporeon (alternate art confirmed)
  • Dedenne (alternate art confirmed)
  • Marshadow (alternate art confirmed)
  • Bulls
  • Blue
  • Leaf

There are several Pokémon depicted in promotional materials who have not yet been confirmed with their own cards. These include:

  • Liepard
  • Serperior
  • Stonejourner
  • Behemoth
  • Gyarados
  • Volcarona
  • Mankey
  • Exeggutor
  • Magikarp
  • Rapidash
  • Salad
  • Salazzle

Speculating further, we can expect some evolution lines or pre-evolutions to appear, potentially including:

  • Old Amber (Aerodactyl)
  • Servine (Snivy, Serperior)
  • Shinotic (Morelull)
  • Eevee (Vaporeon)
  • I will eat (Beheeyem)
  • Purrloin (Liepard)
  • Ponyta (Rapidash)
  • Monkey (Monkey)

In total, assuming these Pokémon make their debut, we would see around 34 distinct cards, accounting for approximately 40% of the Mythical Island set. This leaves ample room for surprises as the release date approaches. Moreover, specific questions remain regarding the number of alternate art, full art, immersive art, and gold full art cards that will feature in this expansion. Notably, Mew ex is a strong candidate for both new full art and gold full art versions, having already appeared as an immersive card in a secret mission.

Preparing for the New Pokémon TCGP Set

Complete Events and Hold Off on Spending Hourglasses

Wonder Hourglasses and a Rewind Watch in Pokemon TCG Pocket

Players eager to excel with the new Mythical Island cards should focus on stockpiling Pack Hourglasses. By completing three missions daily, players can accumulate 4 Pack Hourglasses, and the ongoing Genetic Apex SP Emblem event can reward up to 24 additional Hourglasses before December 16. Other means of obtaining these hourglasses include leveling up, completing solo deck missions, or purchasing them with shop tickets—which can also be supplemented through real-money purchases.

Strategically, if players have begun gathering a decent number of Pack Hourglasses, they should prioritize using their free daily packs on Mythical Island. Given its smaller card pool, acquiring most of the cards should not require excessive amounts of packs. Furthermore, since this is a mini-set, it’s also crucial to remember that in just a few weeks, the Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket will unveil a larger, more comprehensive set.
