As players immerse themselves in the Halloween excitement of Pokemon GO, there’s growing curiosity about what Niantic has in store for the game’s future. While details remain sparse, there are rumors of a new Dynamax Pokemon making its debut on live servers: Excadrill, a Ground and Steel-type from the Unova region.
Niantic recently shared news through an official announcement on the Pokemon GO website, introducing a new weekly event known as Max Mondays. This series of events will feature specific types of Raid Bosses engaged in Max Battles for a limited duration. According to this announcement, players can expect Dynamax Drilbur to arrive in the game on November 18, 2024.
All you need to know about Dynamax Drilbur in Pokemon GO
On November 18, players will have the opportunity to face off against Dynamax Drilbur as a One-Star Max Raid Boss in Pokemon GO. Some fortunate trainers might even encounter its shiny variant after battles, although the chances remain standard. With sufficient candies, players can evolve their Dynamax Drilbur into Excadrill, which will also be able to Dynamax.
It’s important to note that Drilbur does not have a secondary Steel typing, making it strictly a Ground-type. Effective counters for this encounter include Venusaur, Blastoise, Inteleon, and Rillaboom, allowing players to defeat Drilbur fairly easily on their own. Notably, this marks Drilbur’s introduction as the first Ground-type Dynamax Pokemon in Pokemon GO.
Players can anticipate more frequent Drilbur Max Battles between 6 PM and 7 PM on November 18, 2024. Those with access to multiple Max Raid spots can optimize their chances of obtaining Drilbur with ideal IVs. Additionally, undertaking multiple raids will help gather more candies necessary for evolving into Excadrill.
Is Dynamax Excadrill a strong addition to Pokemon GO?
The debut of Dynamax Excadrill in Pokemon GO is likely linked to an upcoming Wild Area global event scheduled shortly after its introduction. With its dual typing as a Ground and Steel-type Pokemon, Excadrill can effectively counter Dynamax and Gigantamax Toxtricity, the primary challengers in this forthcoming event.
Beyond its utility in specific raids, the combination of its typing and impressive stat distribution positions Dynamax Excadrill as one of the top Ground-type Dynamax Pokemon for an extended period. Excadrill can defeat numerous standard Raid Bosses when matched against them favorably, a trend that is expected to persist in Dynamax Raids.
This will make Excadrill an invaluable asset for players engaging with Pokemon GO’s raiding landscape, especially as Niantic ramps up its focus on adding more Dynamax and Gigantamax features this season. The upcoming Wild Area event will showcase its strengths, as Toxtricity is particularly vulnerable to Ground-type attacks.
