Remaining Episodes of Dexter: Original Sin Season 1 and Finale Release Date

WARNING! This article contains SPOILERS for Dexter: Original Sin season 1, episode 1! Showtime’s exciting new prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin, has officially premiered. Building on the legacy of the original Dexter series, which captivated audiences from 2006 to 2013 and returned with the limited series Dexter: New Blood in 2021, this show takes fans back to the formative years of Dexter Morgan’s life as both a serial killer and a forensic analyst at Miami Metro. Set in 1991, Dexter: Original Sin delves into the beginnings of his dark journey, featuring young Dexter, Deb, and a still-alive Harry Morgan as Dexter finally receives approval to adopt Harry’s strict moral code.

The premiere episode of Dexter: Original Sin aired on December 13, 2024, and has garnered positive feedback from viewers and critics alike. The debut focuses on Dexter’s first taste of killing, sheds light on Harry’s backstory, and explores Dexter’s initial experiences as an intern at Miami Metro. With a mix of new characters alongside familiar faces, the opening episode sets the stage for a complex web of emotions, character relationships, and the signature methods that defined the original series. Throughout the season, audiences can anticipate deeper explorations of Dexter’s chilling path, new antagonists, and impactful family dynamics prior to the season finale.

Fans will not have to wait long for further developments in the Dexter universe following the conclusion of Dexter: Original Sin. In response to the controversial ending of Dexter: New Blood in 2022, which left viewers shocked with the death of Dexter Morgan at the hands of his son Harrison, Showtime has shifted focus to two new spin-offs: the aforementioned Dexter: Original Sin and a highly anticipated sequel, Dexter: Resurrection.

The opening sequence of Dexter: Original Sin reveals a surprising twist: despite the events of New Blood, Dexter, portrayed by Michael C. Hall, survived the gunshot and was saved by medical professionals. This unexpected development paves the way for Dexter: Resurrection, which aims to bring Hall back as the iconic character following his dramatic recovery. While an exact premiere date remains undisclosed, Showtime has confirmed that Dexter: Resurrection will debut on Paramount+ with Showtime in summer 2025. Should Dexter: Original Sin see a second season, it is likely to follow the conclusion of Resurrection.
