The inaugural season of Romance in the House has wrapped up, airing its final two episodes on Saturday, September 14, and Sunday, September 15, via JTBC and Netflix. This heartwarming drama centers on Byeon Moo-jin (played by Ji Jin-hee), who once shared a close bond with his wife, Geum Ae-yeon (Kim Ji-soo). Together, they have two children: Byeon Mi-rae (Son Na-eun) and Byeon Hyeon-jae (Yoon San-ha).
It appears unlikely that a second season of Romance in the House will occur, as the series concludes on an uplifting note with no major plotlines left unresolved. The narrative wraps itself up neatly, providing little scope for further exploration.
Recap of Romance in the House Episodes 11 & 12: The Family Resolves Their Conflicts
In Episode 11, titled Following the Journey of Moo-jin, fans are treated to a blend of drama and revelations, starting with a touching moment shared between Ae-yeon and Moo-jin.
As they stroll home hand in hand, their serene evening is interrupted by a nosy neighbor, Jeong-hyeok, who aggressively questions Moo-jin about the source of his wealth. Although Ae-yeon dismisses Jeong-hyeok’s accusations, Moo-jin’s troubling financial background soon emerges.
A flashback reveals that Moo-jin fell victim to a troublesome property pre-sale scam, resulting in him losing his deposit and ultimately having to surrender his snack bar. In a desperate attempt to provide for his family, he embarks on a mission to confront Jae-mun, the conman responsible for his financial ruin.
Moo-jin eventually learns that Jae-mun is flaunting his wealth in Thailand after purchasing a bar. Angered, Moo-jin confronts him wielding a high heel; however, despite injuring himself, he realizes he is not alone in his pursuit of revenge. A wealthy woman, whose daughter was also swindled by Jae-mun, joins forces with Moo-jin, sharing her own heartbreaking story of being cheated out of billions in a marriage scam.
Moved by Moo-jin’s hardships, she offers him a generous four billion KRW, urging him to return to Korea and concentrate on his family. Interestingly, she is also a fan of his baseball team from his playing days. Though grateful, Moo-jin feels a sense of shame regarding the circumstances surrounding the financial windfall and decides to keep it a secret.
Meanwhile, Tae-pyeong and Mi-rae continue to conceal their budding relationship from their colleagues. Complications arise when a coworker begins showing interest in Tae-pyeong, while Mi-rae impresses the CEO at work, attracting rumors that her impending promotion is linked to her romance with the CEO’s son. This scandal casts a shadow over both Mi-rae and Tae-pyeong.
Ae-yeon, however, is experiencing more modeling opportunities with Moo-jin’s support as she prepares for her photoshoot. In this episode of Romance in the House, Moo-jin reconciles with his financial advisor, who admits his jealousy over Moo-jin’s newfound success, and they agree to forgive past grievances.
As tensions escalate, Tae-pyeong staunchly defends Mi-rae’s integrity at work. The team leader steps up to clear Mi-rae’s name, leading the CEO to publicly welcome her into the family. Episode 11 concludes with a comedic brawl between Mi-rae and Tae-pyeong’s fathers, Moo-jin and CEO Nam, respectively.
The series finale, titled Out Romance, picks up with the playful squabble between the fathers. Mi-rae and Tae-pyeong quickly intervene, reminding them of the late hour and their residential surroundings.
Later, Mi-rae checks in with Moo-jin about his confrontation with CEO Nam, expressing concerns that he might have intended to jeopardize her job. Despite her worries, she admits that his actions touched her heart.
In a pivotal moment, Moo-jin meets Tae-pyeong at a taekwondo class, gaining a deeper appreciation for why his father is so proud. The two bury their earlier feud, realizing the bond they share is rooted in mutual care.
Tae-pyeong then shares a rare drink with CEO Nam, probing into why Nam stepped into the role of father even without a biological connection. Nam explains that while it initially began as a duty, the connection evolved into genuine love as their relationship deepened.
In a candid moment, Tae-pyeong reveals that for the first time, during his argument with Mi-rae’s father, he truly felt proud to acknowledge Nam as his dad. They bond over drinks and meaningful conversation, strengthening their relationship.
The series finale also features Moo-jin confronting his son, Hyeon-jae, regarding his recent withdrawal. Hyeon-jae expresses disappointment, feeling unsupported after Moo-jin pushed him towards business instead of academics.
Feeling overlooked by his parents, Hyeon-jae decides to move out, prompting Moo-jin to reflect on his parenting mistakes. Both Mi-rae and Ae-yeon discover Hyeon-jae’s choice, but later, Hyeon-jae shares feelings of neglect, especially during the tumultuous divorce.
He recounts experiences of being bullied at school, where classmates taunted him about his father’s absence. Ae-yeon has a heartfelt talk with him, apologizing and reassuring him that their intentions have always been to strive for the best.
Ultimately, she invites Moo-jin on a trip, where they enjoy a tranquil getaway around a bonfire. She reflects on how her home feels emptier but appreciates her solitude for now. Meanwhile, Mi-rae receives a deserved promotion, and Tae-pyeong decides to return to teaching taekwondo to children, feeling it aligns with his true calling rather than working in his father’s business.
As Mi-rae and Tae-pyeong plan a future vacation, Tae-pyeong suggests taking things slow, wishing to build a lasting relationship. Moo-jin’s career also takes a positive turn as he transitions into a professional baseball coach, fulfilling his dream of mentoring young athletes.
Mi-rae visits Moo-jin’s academy, expressing joy at witnessing his success. They fondly reminisce about their childhood adventures. Romance in the House concludes on an optimistic note, showcasing each family member thriving and content with their achievements.
