Exciting developments are on the horizon for Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, as filming for the next film is slated to commence in 2024. This announcement comes amid numerous discussions and fan speculation regarding the direction of the iconic series, with some fans advocating for Disney to reconsider the project’s future.
Since its inception, Pirates of the Caribbean has become a monumental success, amassing over $4.5 billion globally, making it one of the highest-grossing franchises ever. However, the last release, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, premiered in 2017, placing the series in a state of limbo. The uncertainty has deepened following Johnny Depp’s widely publicized legal troubles, which have overshadowed his role as the franchise’s beloved anti-hero, Captain Jack Sparrow.
Current Status of the Sixth Pirates of the Caribbean Installment
According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, Disney is poised to begin production on the latest chapter of the Pirates saga sometime next year. In his report shared on Patreon, he refrained from detailing Johnny Depp’s potential involvement, leaving fans eager to learn about the future of Captain Jack Sparrow.
Amidst these developments, another project featuring a female lead, spearheaded by Margot Robbie, was reported to be underway. Although previous assertions indicated that this project might be stalled, it appears there are now renewed efforts to revive it, with Ayo Edebiri (from the acclaimed series The Bear) considered for a leading role.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has recently confirmed the momentum behind the Margot Robbie-led film, expressing his commitment to bring it to fruition. In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, he also expressed his fondness for Johnny Depp, suggesting that if it were up to him, Depp would reprise his iconic role in the new vision for the franchise. Bruckheimer stated: “He’s got an amazing third act. We just gotta clean up the first and second, and then we’ll get there. But he wrote a great, great third act.”

Regarding Depp’s role in the potential reboot, Bruckheimer further elaborated: “It’s a reboot, but if it was up to me, he [Johnny Depp] would be in it. I love him. He’s a good friend. He’s an amazing artist, and he has a unique style. He created Captain Jack.”
