Insider Jez Corden recently suggested that Bethesda may reveal a remake or remaster of their classic RPG, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, during a potential Xbox event slated for January 2025. This information aligns with a recent leak from early December, sparking excitement among fans eager for a return to Tamriel.
Originally launched in 2006, Oblivion was the much-anticipated successor to 2002’s The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind. It quickly captivated gamers and critics alike, earning a reputation as one of the greatest video games in history. The game was celebrated for its engaging lore, expansive open world, compelling storyline, and memorable soundtrack. Despite its impressive graphics at release, nearly two decades have now passed since its debut, leading many fans to advocate for a visually enhanced version of the game. While several fan-created mods have adapted Oblivion’s world within Skyrim’s game engine, an official remaster is now a possibility.
In a recent Twitter post, Corden expressed optimism that the remaster of Oblivion could be showcased during the speculated Xbox Developer Direct in January 2025. He mentioned that while a remaster is likely, there remains a chance for a complete remake. This speculation follows similar predictions made by YouTuber eXtas1s earlier in December, who also suggested a 2025 release for the revamped version of Oblivion. Although Xbox has yet to officially announce a showcase for January, previous Developer Directs took place in both January 2023 and 2024, suggesting a pattern may continue.

On December 9, Corden suggested on Twitter that Xbox would not be showcasing many first-party titles at The Game Awards 2024. Instead, he expected a dedicated event focused on upcoming Q1 2025 releases like Avowed and Fable. Despite the excitement surrounding these titles, fans are eagerly questioning what lies ahead for Bethesda following the launch of Starfield in 2023. Since its announcement in June 2018, news regarding The Elder Scrolls 6 has been alarmingly scarce, with Phil Spencer estimating that the game would not be released for at least five more years and no platforms having been announced yet.
While the prospect of a remaster or remake for Oblivion at the upcoming Xbox event is not guaranteed, various credible sources suggest that it is a distinct possibility. Bethesda has clarified its commitment to developing The Elder Scrolls 6 before initiating any new Fallout projects. However, in the meantime, the development team could be preparing to delight fans with a surprise related to one of their most treasured RPG franchises.
